About this listen

A romantic cabin getaway doesn't go exactly as planned.

High up on the windswept cliffs of Pale Peak, Faye and Felix celebrate their new engagement. But soon, a chorus of ghastly noises erupts from the nearby woods: the screams of animals, the cries of children, and the mad babble of a hundred mournful voices. A dark figure looms near the windows in the dead of night, whispering to Faye. As the weather turns deadly, Felix discovers that his terrified fiancée isn't just mumbling in her sleep—she's whispering back.

I liked where the story was going. I liked the characters. But it never went anywhere. Very repetitive. Halfway through I realized I wanted the creature to take Faye just for there to be something different.

Good in the beginning then too repetitive

For the first time in my 25 years I've experienced true fear. This is currently the only book I've ever been truly terrified of. If I had possessed this book physically I'd have most likely tossed it into a corner to be forgotten when I first felt the overwhelming sense of fear an terror take a hold of me. However due to me having this book on audio I'd find myself shutting it off when I felt like my heart was going to beat right out of chest or burst, though maybe I've had such a strong sense of fear an terror while listening due to turning on the book at night while I was downstairs alone. Whichever reason it is that this book got to me as strongly as it did all I know is that this was definitely the scariest book I've ever heard and while I probably won't sleep without nightmares for a while it was worth the listen and is five stars in my book.

Scary?

Came here from the recent Creep Cast episode on the original Reddit story and I was hooked and quickly picked this up to see what differences were made. Overall both versions of the story are great and creepy, but the narrator on this version really took me out of it. For whatever reason the narrator raises his voice to the point of yelling for any and all dialogue and his voice can be very grating. If this was narrated by someone else with better volume control that didn't make me wince all the time this Audible version would be all the better for it.

Great story - poor narration

The book is really good but the last chapter the author Gordon and on about why he chose native Americans in his story… I personally thinks it’s long winded and unnecessary.

Good book

As I write this, I’m genuinely afraid to go outside to walk my dog. This was one of the scariest books I’ve ever read, and I’ll be thinking about it for a long time. My only complaint is that the narration could have been a fair bit better in some parts.

Will be sleeping with the light on

heard it first from creepypasta, thought I'd use a credit to listen to the real and full thing. overall the story was creepy and interesting, but the ending was pretty disappointing and I really thought it would be more climactic.

Good story, disappointing ending

Was skeptical at first, however it held my interest from start to finish. Narration was great.

Good listen!

It was definitely a nerve wracking, hair standing novel that made me watch my back

I liked the mystery of the entity and how it was affecting his wife. Very scary!
However at the last 30 minutes I became kinda bored with the way it was ended.
I would still recommend it. Great mystery and thriller on my opinion!
