Publisher's summary

One by one, high-level executives and correspondents are being murdered in the brutally competitive world of TV journalism. Soon it becomes clear that the killings are linked, the work of a bitter former newsman exacting revenge on those who derailed his career.

First to be suspected is Shannon Michaels, a once-promising correspondent whose hopes for a TV news career were dashed when he violated the rules of the game. Also under investigation is jaded, hard-drinking David Wayne, another journalist whose career has been destroyed by the personal betrayals and corporate machinations of the TV news world.

Tommy O'Malley, a tough but warm-hearted New York City detective, is assigned to crack the widening, high-profile murder cases, but encounters competition from a beautiful and tenacious tabloid reporter, Ashley Van Buren. As the story unfolds, Tommy and Ashley quickly discover they've got much more in common than a knack for crime-solving!

Suspense, action, psychodrama, and romance - all unfold as the two try to catch their man. Along the way, listeners are transported to numerous exotic locales, from Argentina to Fort Lauderdale, from Ireland to Long Island. They also gain fascinating, authentic glimpses of the TV news business they rely on daily, but have only seen from the outside - until now.

Classic crime story

Well written, great story line. Loved character breakdown and relationship building throughout. Bill is really a great writer.

Truth and Fiction at its best.

I found this book descriptively gory concerning the murders and descriptively perfect in setting up the atmosphere for the environment and settings for which much of the action takes place.

I believe the author was able to portray a finely woven plot using words that were fitting and very descriptive of the events unfolding. He did so in such a way that I was able to become a part the story as though I was standing nearby watching the events unfold.
Scary to think this book is insightful to what really happens in the world of Broadcast Media and Journalism.

I felt the descriptively sexy and exotic sections were poorly read. Perhaps the author could have read those sections with a bit more feeling so we could feel the mode instead of the Dragnet Narrative style he used throughout the book.
His narrative tone reminded me of the old Dragnet series and how the way they describe events as they were unfolding.

Overall I had an excellent listening experience on CD as well as on my IPAQ!

Recommended reading for the truth and ficton encompassed in this story.

Nothing amazing

I rate this book as average. It was a decent read and a decent story, but it was just so darn predictable. The dialog between characters was cliche-ish at best. There really was no mystery for someone who is used to reading mystery novels. I assume that Bill wanted to "shed light" on how the industry works more than he tried to sit down and write a mystery novel. It would have been better if he would have just written a non fiction book and changed the names to protect people. Stories of events unfolding and building upon themselves are more interesting than reading events unfolding in a mediocre mystery novel. You are not wasting your money, but you may feel wanting by the end of the book.

Every business has cutthroat people who do bad things. This is no secret, but it would have been nice to find out more details so you could actually care about the characters. Even the people who were murdered in the story didn?t make you walk away feeling like you knew if what they did was bad enough to fuel the rage of the murderer. You really didn?t even get a sense for what the person did that was so horrible. You read the book thinking that you should come into the story knowing about what ?those types? of people are like. It just seemed like the characters were cookie cutter out of the land of the cheesy old time mystery series. You almost want to label the people as ?The cheesy married anchorman who hits on women? or ?The cold hearted personnel manager who fires everyone? instead of the names of the characters. It just wasn?t enough length of the story to give any depth of the characters. You get a sense that all of the characters in the story (both bad and good) have very shallow development that leaves the reader wanting more detail.

disappointed O'Reilly fan... Just awful

I liked bills other works but this one fails in many levels. the story is poorly written and falls flat. the narration may work in Non fiction but not here. It was like getting a hustler article bed time story from your grandpa. awkward.
