About this listen

Bloomsbury presents Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

Lethal. Loyal. Legendary.

Enter the world of Throne of Glass with the first book in the #1 bestselling series by Sarah J. Maas.

In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King’s Champion.

Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a faraway country will befriend her. But something rotten dwells in the castle, and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival—and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

Thrilling and fierce, Throne of Glass is the first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series that has captivated readers worldwide.

Omg, the Narrator KILLS this book

I stopped at chapter 10. I went to the reviews to see if anyone felt the same way about the narration as I did 🤣 - not disappointed 💀.

I seriously couldn’t figure out who this romance was between because of this narrator’s portrayal of the main guys. There is no way I can finish listening to this story because the voices are THAT BAD.

I’m just gonna pick up the book and read it - I don’t want the narration to ruin the story 🙈.

Buckle up for this bc I’m mad

I’m over 25 chapters in and with all honesty I have to say that I *hate* this book. This author clearly loves the idea of combat and a strong main character, but they are absolutely abysmal at describing ANYTHING or putting ANY effort into field research. She really couldn’t do the research into the steps of pool?? ‘He showed her the many steps’ WHAT ARE THEY??? The challenges are supposed to be important but she just glosses over them in a couple of paragraphs to get to the droning of how dangerous she is inside her head.

They clearly want the mc to be dangerous and an assassin but she has yet to get into a single bit of combat?? There’s so much ‘if I wanted to I would but I won’t’ ‘I could kill them all so easily’ but she’s constantly unaware of her surroundings? Constantly being surprised by the prince who she never knew was there in a silent room?? Some ‘kingdom’s greatest assassin’ she’s also very whiny and honestly not very smart.

A bunch of sewing needles jabbed into a bar of soap does not make a pike. A pike is a long spear like weapon and it drives me insane that she thought that was a good idea to put that in there. Like? She literally BRAGS about how she knows how to use every single weapon but I really think the author just wanted her to be as cool as possible without actually putting in the details and effort. I mean I’m a regular person and even I know that’s not correct I’m at least 80% sure she meant a mace and even that wouldn’t work if it’s made from sewing needles and a bar of soap.

This girl is fresh out of a prison camp and is gauging people around her on how handsome they are ‘he was so handsome she had trouble not thinking about how handsome he was’ girl wHAT women do not think that way you should know better.

The ‘history’ of the lands are all over the place I really feel like this author just had ideas all of a sudden and then added them in without any explanation or how they’d correlate to the rest of the writing. I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this but in fact this entire book feels like the first draft of a college creative writing course.

I’ll never understand the constant need to make the main character 18. This is an adult book not a YA novel so I’ll never get what the appeal of seeing teenagers think about their lovers. It’s weird, make them older please.

‘Yeah she’s only 18 but the most ruthless assassin in all the land and she’s scrawny and been in a labor camp but she could kill forty grown men in one fell swoop, and she only ever thinks about how handsome this guy is she’s met about three times oh and don’t forget the murders of the hunger games tributes that are just thrown in when the author remembers she hasn’t mentioned it in four or six chapters’

God I hate this book and I wanted to like it too I really did. I’ve seen so many reviews and heard so many good things but this book is just a constant gloss over of the things the author couldn’t have bothered to look into and the mc is the biGGEST poser I’ve ever seen. Genuine ‘ooh watch out we got a badass over here’ vibes the entire way through, I’m telling you I have to make myself finish this book and I definitely won’t be reading the rest.

Really feel like booktok recommendations is ruining the chances of actually decent authors getting their time in the spotlight because Jesus Christ this book is bad.

The narrator was fine, the only thing that really bothered me is if you’re going to give other characters accents when it’s not specifically stated you need to give the ones who are specifically stated to have accents their accents. The one poc in this book barely speaks the host language but the narrator just makes her tone slow and wispy like that makes it better bro give her her accent. If you’re not confident in your ability to do a wide range of accents don’t narrate the book 💀

These books rock!

The throne of glass novels became a quick favorite of mine, Elizabeth Evans performs the voices of all of the characters beautifully, changing inflections for different accents from different kingdoms. It really adds to the story, which is already amazing in my opinion! I love the romance, i love the adventure, the SUPRISES, the twists and turns that Sarah J Maas adds to her stories add to the nail biting effect of the story. I have listened to and read these books at least 12 times each.

I cannot say enough good things about these books, if you are thinking about giving them a read, or listen, DO IT! there will be no regrets!

Voice actor

For everyone complaining about the audio, I understand. The original release in 2013 was significantly better, even though it's read by the same person. Unfortunately, however, that version is no longer available. They're in the process of republishing all the titles in this series and I recommend listening to a sample of one of the books that haven't yet been redone.

Other than that I love this story, some people complain about how flat the main character is but book 1 is just a build up for what you learn about her in book 2.

Don’t trust the bad reviews!

I didn’t read this book for a long time bc I didn’t like ACOTAR and I was scared this one was worse bc of the reviews on here but it’s very well written it’s very interesting the characters are amazing and it is an absolute must read. The performance on this is really great as well!
