Publisher's summary

A fun and sexy romance where the kiln isn't the only thing that's scorching hot.

Leo Secombe loves his life, and he's convinced himself he's happy to be single. In his spare time, he keeps himself busy at a local LGBTQ centre that pairs a younger person with a community elder to help them feel included in today's rainbow family. Leo and Clyde have been buddies for a few years now, and signing up for a pottery class seems like fun.

Merrick Bowman has been so focused on getting his pottery business up and running that he's forgotten how to date. How to live, even. But when a young, bubbly Leo and an older, grumpy Clyde walk through his door, Merrick has no idea how much Leo is about to centre his world.

Throwing clay has been Merrick's entire life, but Leo's about to change all that. Maybe Merrick's ready to throw caution to the wind. And maybe he's ready to finally throw his heart on the line.

"... you can throw hearts for me any time." - Leo

• Would I listen to it again: yes
• Did the story keep me engaged: yes
• Was I invested in the characters: yes

• Story comment: I found this to be a "cute" story with an easy pace. The characters are likeable with their own quirks and the dynamic between the two MCs was entertaining. I appreciated NR Walkers inclusion of Clyde and Uncle Donny. The older generation, what they suffered and how they feel (even now) should never be forgotten.

• Narrator comment: I enjoyed Glen Lloyd's narration. I had no problem distinguishing characters, his rhythm, tone and inflections have all done a good job bringing Throwing Hearts to life.

Good story. Good narration.

This was a sweet romance story with wonderful characters. The story had a few moral lessons and a few reminders that we are all allowed to be a bit different.

Narration was well suited to the story.

Merrick and Leo

Merrick owns a Pottery shop, Leo and Cranky Clyde sign up for classes. Merrick and Leo hit it off, and Meerick invites his Uncle Donnie to the class to be a friend for Clyde but Cupid has other ideas. The wedding was beautiful.

Disappointing

I generally really love N.R. Walker. He stuff is usually fun and sweet but has a bit of oomph to it. This book fell flat. I kind of felt like there was a nugget of goodness but it was mitered by allot of stupid self reflection. The narrator was really bad. I usually think international narrator get a pass because even if they aren’t amazing it’s still better than a bad American reader but this guy was just bad. Over all not one of my favs

Sweet and simple

I originally grabbed this title because I really like the author. I then upgraded to the audiobook after really enjoying his narration of another title. Going into Throwing Hearts I expected cute and sappy, which is essentially what I got. Unfortunately, despite this usually being an author I adore, this fell a little on the too sweet and simple side for my tastes.

Perhaps I wasn't just in the right frame of mind for a lighter story, but I never really fell for the characters and story. While I found both Leo and Merrick very nice main characters and enjoyed the sarcastic and biting jokes of Clyde, I kept waiting for something more. Looking back, I realized I missed that spark or the part of the story where I was swept me away like I've come to expect from this author's work.

Narration wise, the narrator's tone and rhythm matched the story well. I'd recommend Throwing Hearts to those looking for a low-angst, even-keeled sweetness.

Ehh not really sex positive

Halfway through the story gets oddly hung up on a traditional/outdated/rooted-in-misogyny view of having to hold out on penetrative sex in order to form a meaningful lasting relationship and I'm soo over it. Only finishing because Audible is getting sassy about me returning titles. I liked the characters before they introduced that as the main plot conflict so if that's not something that bothers you you'll probably like it.
