About this listen

Men and I are done. Whatever entertaining notions I enjoy while screwing around with the random guys that cross my path are exactly that. Entertaining.

I don't want more. I'm not capable of more. More would mean feeling. Would entail wanting. Desiring. And a slew of other emotions I haven’t experienced in over three years. And it's not due to any stupid naive intention of trying to keep my heart from breaking, nor is it as a result of having it broken by some poor slob who should have known better.

I can't feel. I don't have a heart. Period. And it's going to take more than following some magic yellow brick road to get me a new one.

Even if that road does lead straight to Riker - the only soul on earth who's as close to being dead as I am... and brings me as close to being alive as I'll ever be.

Warning - This story contains adult material and possible emotional triggers for listeners with a history of abuse.

Emotions and Secrets

Quinn comes to live with her sister. It's clear Quinn is running from something it just doesn't become clear what for a long time. All Quinn has is her three legged dog. During her nieces birthday party on a ranch she meets Riker. Riker as well has his own secrets. Soon Riker and Quinn begin to meet up every night to hook up. Quinn is up front from the beginning and says she doesn't want a relationship. Quinn's sister is determined to "fix" her though. Riker eventually is more forth coming than Quinn. Both of their secrets are very emotional and sad. It really broke both of them. Quinn said that she couldn't fall in love again because she no longer had a heart. Quinn was just trying to protect Riker. I think she couldn't come out and tell Riker what happened to her and what she lost. Quinn and Riker find a way to heal each other. It is a very good book. I'm glad Riker didn't give up on Quinn especially after what he went through.

Quinn and Riker

*MAJOR WARNING*
If your sensitive to others struggles, and sometimes forget that book characters are not real people. You will cry many times through out this story!

With that said it is an amazing story, about to broken souls that use each other to heal and become whole! I really can't say enough how much I adore this story! I have had a few similar experiences as Quinn, so I think it also hits me hard for that reason. Must read/listen!

The narrator is new to me, but she does an amazing job with infusing personality into the characters!.

heavy story

Riker and Quinn have some heavy attraction, but both have sworn off relationships. They both have lots of darkness in their pasts, both physical and emotional abuse, and life isn't done kicking Quinn. I listened to the audio version of this book, narrated by Kacey Czosnowski. She has a really nice voice, and did a great job with the narration. With dual POV, she made it easy to distinguish the Riker chapters from the Quinn chapters, without having a real obvious drop in her tone for Riker.
