Publisher's summary

The course of true love never did run smooth....

When Fitzwilliam Darcy departs Hunsford after his disastrous proposal to Elizabeth Bennet, he does not expect their paths to cross again. Indeed, knowing the lady's true feelings for him, he makes every effort to see that they do not. But when a chance encounter leaves him stranded in an abandoned cottage with the one woman he can never have, Darcy quickly realizes there is more at risk than just Elizabeth's reputation.

Elizabeth Bennet knows Mr. Darcy is the last man in the world whom she could ever be prevailed on to marry. Until the morning he hands her a letter, his countenance as dark and forbidding as the windswept sky. Now, trapped in a snowstorm with the one person she was certain she despised, Elizabeth is startled to discover that her feelings are not at all what she expected.

But is one night alone together enough to alter the course of their future?

Can any man as proud as Mr. Darcy be expected to offer for the same woman a second time?

In this tale of serendipity and second chances, literature's unlikeliest couple must conquer pride, prejudice, and faulty first impressions in the elusive quest for their own happily ever after.

Lots of wonderful, tender moments in this debut novel

I enjoy audiobooks for long road trips, tedious chores and even gardening. This was a welcome distraction. Darcy and Elizabeth struggle throughout the novel to believe the other could love them yet the narrator’s excellent pacing and interpretation/performance kept the story moving forward—whereas reading it might have seemed repetitious before they finally reached their happily ever after. This story is long on misunderstandings and yearning that might have been tightened to keep the action progressing. Lots of wonderful, tender moments in this debut novel too! I anticipate more of Altman’s future work.

There were a few production “pops”/mechanical clicking-type noise in between scenes and/or sentences but not so often to ruin my overall enjoyment. Stevie Zimmerman’s narration is on point as usual. Well done!

Fabulous!

Such an enjoyable P&P variation! Much of this canon, and the few parts that deviate, are for the better (Lydia’s storyline, for example). It never made sense to me that Lydia should end up with GW. So this was a pleasant surprise. And it’s such a small part of this story, that I’m sure it isn’t exactly a spoiler.

As for the story. Darcy and Elizabeth end up alone together in a cabin after Darcy’s carriage crashes. For this part of the story alone, this book is worth reading. Or listening.

The familiar storyline of miscommunication ensues and our favorite couple have a difficult time of it. Oh it’s a long road, but a journey worth taking.

This is worth a credit.

Simply marvelous

Great narration and wonderful story. I like the disposal of Wickham better in this one than other variations. The sexual tension between Elizabeth and Darcy is sensual yet not racy or immodest to which I think Jane Austen would approve.

Really enjoyed this variation!

This is in my top 5 favorite Pride and Prejudice variations. Characters retain in their personal qualities (which causes the dramatic tensions).

I was glued to it!

5 stars all the way around. This story is better than the original. Did I actually say that??? Yes, yes I did. I like this ending so much better. I know that is dangerous territory as P & P is a classic. But, you like what you like. Also, the narrator is Stevie Zimmerman. I had never heard of her before but she has the most beautiful voice and I felt she did the characters well. I never got distracted by her. I am picky about narrators. Totally worth spending a credit on this one. I will listen to this again and again!

Excellent JA Variation

This one kept me up 'til 4:00 a.m. as I couldn't stop until the story was finished. Lovely story with lots of interaction between Darcy and Elizabeth, enough but not to much angst, story kept moving along at a nice pace, and the reader was superb. Absolutely loved it.

Wonderful! Couldn’t put it down! 🤩😍

To start of, I couldn’t stop listening to his lovely, and absolutely brilliant performance by Stevie Zimmerman!

But Nearly a day to the year of Darcy’s horrid proposal, Elizabeth and Darcy meet again, again in Kent. A carriage accident, leaves Darcy and Elizabeth in a down-run cottage, in a snowstorm. This makes Elizabeth’s feelings start to change for the man she thought Darcy was.

Stevie Zimmerman makes Darcy and Elizabeth come to life, like never before! With all of their misunderstandings, Pride and Prejudice and love for each other.
The story goes from Kent, London and Derbyshire. Georgiana makes quite an appearance, alongside of a few new characters which gives our favourite couple some doubts about each other and their feelings for one another.

But the beauty of Derbyshire, Georgiana and some honest conversations give Darcy and Elizabeth the unending happiness they both desire.

The story, and Stevie’s voice makes the reader/listener feel like you are part of the story, and that makes it a priceless performance by both Jennifer and Stevie. Congratulations to both 🤩

To Conquer Pride

What a great book. Once again another telling of Darcy and Elisabeth. The author Jennifer Altman did a great job and I love the way Stevie Zimmerman tells a story.
