About this listen

Miss Caroline Bingley has long been a thorn in the side of Fitzwilliam Darcy's friendship with Charles Bingley; the visit to Netherfield Park to help Bingley learn the craft of an estate manager has all the potential for disaster. But Darcy will not shirk, for his friendship with Bingley outweighs his distaste for the man's sister. In his defense, Darcy enlists his manservant, a man equally committed to ensure Miss Bingley will not become his master's wife.

What Darcy had not expected was to find a woman in Hertfordshire, a woman he had only dreamed of meeting. Miss Elizabeth Bennet was everything a woman should be—handsome, intelligent, witty, considerate, and possessing the most beautiful eyes Darcy had ever beheld. It was not long before Darcy found himself ensnared in her web, helplessly besotted, knowing she was exactly what he wanted in a wife.

Yet the specter of Miss Bingley's resolve to go to whatever lengths to have her way hung over his overtures to the woman he was rapidly coming to love. In time, Darcy was certain Miss Bingley would make her move, her actions certain to destroy his happiness if she succeeded. Darcy, however, was not without resources, and not without his own determination to do everything he could to thwart her machinations and find his happiness.

Pleasantly Unexpected Storyline

A plot twist unlike any other I’ve listened to. I really enjoyed the story and Harry Frost is always a great narrator.

Wish the story would have been more drawn out. There are lots of little opportunities that could have added to the overall story.

Regardless, I definitely recommend!

A completely new twist

I LOVED this book, I wish it were longer. I'm so, so happy to see some Jann Rowland books being narrated by Harry Frost finally, I have tried many times, but just can't listen to his usual narrator, so to have HF narrating give me joy. I love his stories, they are always smart stories with great dialogue and unexpected story lines. This is no different - it is set at the same time as canon, but things go a bit different starting at the assembly and it ends in a completely unexpected way. I LOVED Mr. Bennett in this version, he is the version of himself that I always imagine in my head. ODC and Jane and Bingley are as expected, with some fun moments of banter between ODC.

I would definitely recommend this story - the story is great + the narration is great and it's long enough to get a well developed story. Again, I wish it were longer - maybe a longer epilogue with more detail? Anyway - it's worth a credit.

Fun and Different

Not read a P&P variation like this one. Caroline is absolutely delusional, mean and nuts. Elizabeth and Darcy are friends from the beginning. Mrs. Bennett died giving birth to her fifth child when Elizabeth was 5 years old. Wickham is not a player in this book. I liked Darcy's valet, Snell. All in all this was a very good story and was superbly performed. Highly recommend.

I finally figured it out

Harry frost is such a popular narrator. Why is it that I detest his narration? Even though I have listened to it multiple times.

Now I know. He gives you all of the information, but it is in away as if he's just telling what happened. He does not make it feel as if you are there.

It reminds me of how used to teach children to write. We said, " Show, don't tell."

In the canon's words., ' Tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me.'
