About this listen

Four years after their abandonment by the now-fallen Empire, the Commonwealth of Avalon is expanding into interstellar space and making contact with other successor states. With suspicion high on both sides, the Commonwealth and the enigmatic Wolfbane agree to hold a diplomatic meeting on Lakshmibai, a neutral world. But Lakshmibai's government hates off-worlders and, with the fall of the Empire, sees its chance to be rid of the hated intruders once and for all. While Edward Stalker is besieged in their capital city, Jasmine Yamane must lead an untested army on a race against time to save the diplomats from annihilation. And if she fails, the Battle of Lakshmibai may be the first shot in a new interstellar war.

One of the best in the series

All the series is good but this was one of the better ones. The ending is a bit predictable though.

More of the same - with a smaller plot

If you've liked this series so far, you'll probably like this one. There's very little of the broader political and societal changes going on in that region of space. This is a fight book. There's a setup, and then a big fight between very different forces, and it ends. There's a twist at the end that isn't entirely unexpected which provides a bit more of a reason for the fight and points to the what the next fight will be about. Mostly, I've you've gotten to book 6 in this series you won't want to miss this one but you also won't find it all that satisfying.

Good listen

Alright so it seems like each book takes forever to knock out one major plot pivot point and only contains one...which on the surface would suck. The reason why it doesn't is simply the fact that the author is still cranking the books out. You get the feeling that all these characters from the various side plot books are gonna come together into a new series of books. This is a good thing and man I can't wait

Not bad

Although I'm am tired or all the scowling and inward wincing that's always going on, I live the characters and the story. Not prose but good reading.

Back to the main story

This series seems to be jumping all over the place with the different stories lines. Book 5 tied back into the main story at the end and I was hoping this would build from there.......but it didn't. This book is a continuance of what I call the "Main Story" which to me revolves around Col Stalker and his marines. It deals with high tech vs. low tech battles in which the low tech side has unlimited resources.

I can't wait to see where Christopher Nuttall is going with this series.

a bit repetitive but still a good story line.

The story line is a rather repetitive one, if you read book 5 and it feels like a political science lecture more than a book. on the other hand it rings far too close to our earth as we live now.

once a marine always a marine. Gotta love 'em.

Great to see all those you root for win. Hurts when we lose a great marine.

Good but...

Love all the others and this story was good but felt a little rushed. But did he leave you wanting the next book!

Series has turned to Crap.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Stayed with the Marined and not politics, sex, rape, murder, and genocide. The series started off good, got better, then went down to ZERO.

What could Christopher G. Nuttall have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Skipped this book completely.

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

Great as always.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

None.

Any additional comments?

Through with this series.
