About this listen

One would think that once we get to the mo betta stage of life (i.e. late 30s-early 40s) we should know all about our inner fool and how to deal with them, right? Wrong! Meet five friends all battling with the biggest fool any of them has ever known...themselves! Yes, everyone plays the fool. There is no exception to the rule. But what do you do when the fool is you?

Nia is the resident Ms. Fix-it with her friends but when she takes a private trip down memory lane one night, she sets a series of events in motion that is nowhere near easy to fix. Dionne is the spoiled brat that goes along with whatever just to get along with her drunken husband, Edward, and everyone else at the expense of her own wants and needs. Melody is Ms. Independent with no man, and no kids to care for but when her selfish sister, Maya takes her kindness for weakness for the umpteenth time, it creates way more than a temporary situation. Angel is the superstar rebel that lives against that grain and makes her own rules, yet when tragedy threatens the course she must do something strange for her situation to change. Draylin is the man of the bunch engulfed in an on-going power struggle between his best friend, Nia and his wife, Andrea. When sex and pregnancy enter the equation will it divide his union for good? The temporary life lessons learned will turn into lifelong blessings for the future, if all win the battle with their inner fool.

Great Story Line!

I loved the character development and the plot was THICK. I can't wait to see what's next for this amazing author.

The storyline was pretty good but.......

If you could sum up Toast to the Fool in three words, what would they be?

It was a pretty good read but the narrator was HORRIBLE!! It was very hard to get past the narrator so it took longer for me to get through the book.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Toast to the Fool?

One of the most memorable moments of Toast to the Fool, was when Nia found that her 2 best friends slept together.

How could the performance have been better?

The performance would have been better with more practice or maybe a different reader.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment that moved me most, was when each character realized how much of a fool they'd been.

Any additional comments?

The story-line was really good, but it is very hard to get past poor narrating.

Good story. Amateur narrator

The story was good but you could tell the narrator was a novice and if she wasn't it seemed that way. There were also several obvious pauses throughout the book and at one point and echoish sound.

Overall I would read more from this author but use more experienced narrators and for as many characters in this book there should be several narrators.

Awful narrator

This book could have been about four hours shorter if it wasn't for those awkward pauses from the terrible narrator! I'm also extremely irritated at how Nia's fiancé and Draylen's wife were portrayed as jealous and insecure of their relationship when they had every right to feel the way they did! The way those two "Best friends" acted around each other was annoying and nauseating!

Horrible

I disliked the narrator. She seems slow. Dragging out her words. Really irritating. I would not reccomend this book because it was full of unnecessary drama that dragged on and on. I just stopped listening and skipped to the end.

Bad narrator

I couldn’t get the narrator voice. I started but couldn’t get past the first few minutes. I believe this is a good book. The narrator is terrible. Sorry an author need to write not narrator. You and terry McMillan need to write only.
