Publisher's summary

Todd O'Malley has been called many things, from filthy mouthed jerk to legendary Rock God. With his outlandish cocky demeanor – tatted up and pierced, compared in looks to Adam Levine – his constant use of the F-bomb, and the seductive gyrations he performs for the ladies on stage, affirm he is a man every woman craves. But there is only one woman who is able to capture his heart, Kyra Edwards.

That chance meeting at a little coffee shop in Evanston began their journey of compromise, pain, dedication and love.

From the night he took her virginity to Todd's past sex-capades and consequences threatening their relationship, will Kyra be able to deal with it? With Todd and his band Avenue touring on the road, can he prove to Kyra that he is a changed man? Can he be faithful and avoid temptation?

SHORT BUT GOOD STORY

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

I wish I had the background of listening to the Out Of Box series but this is the first I meet Todd and Kyra. For a short story, it was pretty good. I didn't feel the narrator's voice fit the person of Todd. He had a more country feel, IMO. I'm not a fan of the songs in the middle, either. No way was it what I imagined.

One Thumb Up here.

This was my first time with an audio and all I can say is if all audios are like Jennifer's it won't be my last. The narrator Zach portrayed Todd with such realism. I felt like I was listening to the retelling of a story over coffee with an old friend. Mark's song added an extra bonus I never expected and showed me what makes audios so unique compared to traditional book.

In regards to the book and Jennifer's telling of the story, I can't recommend this book enough. I haven't read the Out of the Box series, but since hearing some of the inner monologue of Todd I definitely will be now. There are so many missing details that I'm certain the series reveals. All in all I believe this book is the perfect accompaniment to the series.

I recommend this audio, this book, and the whole series to one and all. I also encourage everyone to get audio books a try. You won't be disappointed in any way.

A Good Short, Quick Read

This was a super short story, quick read, that gave us an inside look at someone that showed up in another series, Out of the Box. I didn't know that when I read it. And, because I hadn't read that series before I read this, I felt like it was too much of a quick telling. The story was just that... a lot of telling and not a lot of showing, BUT when it did get to the showing parts, those were really good. The whole things seemed fast, the love, the dating, the proposal, and I'm not sure if I felt like everything was resolved. But again, I think it's supposed to be that way. I need to read the other series so I can appreciate this more, because this rocker, Todd, was seriously hot!! I was rooting for him the whole time!
Besides the story itself and the writing, I'd like to speak about the narration, since I listened to this in audio format. I listen to a lot of audiobooks, most of the books I "read" are audiobooks. I even have favorite narrators. I thought the writing of Todd's (the MC) thoughts and the way he spoke were very fitting, but the narrator did not translate that. I honestly did not like the narrator very much at all. ( I hate saying anything negative at all, but if you're an audiobook connoisseur like I am, you'll appreciate the honesty) He sounded robotic, slightly monotone, no inflection for emotion or anything that the computerized feature on a Kindle couldn't do. It was a bit disappointing, because Todd had swagger, a certain way of speaking, and a lot of emotion. I just didnt get that from listening to it. If I didn't just force myself to concentrate on the words and the actual story, and not the way it was "read" to me, I would have given this 2 stars. However, I put aside the narration and pictured how Todd would have said what he said, while listening and it made it so much better.
This was the first book of Theriot I've read, and I will read more of hers. I think, if you're going to read this story, you should read the Out of the Box series first.

Todd FREAKIN O'Malley !!

What did you love best about Toccata Obbligato - Serenading Kyra (Out of the Box)?

I read this book some time back and it was truly wonderful. But listening to it brought it to life and had me laughing. To hear someone actually put words to Todd O' Malley.

What other book might you compare Toccata Obbligato - Serenading Kyra (Out of the Box) to and why?

To be honest many books always compare to each other but not this one. There is not another I have read or listened to yet like this.

What about Zachary Liebenstein’s performance did you like?

This guy sure had his work cut out for him as Todd O'Malley loves the F-Bomb. Zachary did a great job. It was a first for me hearing this narrator

If you could take any character from Toccata Obbligato - Serenading Kyra (Out of the Box) out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Oh gosh I'd take Todd but I would for sure have to wear depends. He is hilarious but always straight to the point.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed listening to this book very much.

Wow, it's even better in audio

OMG! He actually sings her his love song in this audio!

I had already read the book previously, but this was a thousand times better and NO eyestrain! I love this story of mismatched lovers. The language is a bit shocking at first, but he's a rocker.
Fortunately, the more time he spends with his new girlfriend, the tamer he becomes. But nothing is easy between the unlikely couple.

Loved it!

Quickie Rocker Romance

This was a fast-paced and steamy short story where a lot was packed into a short listen. I liked the characters, and I wanted them to get their HEA. Because of the length of the listen, there were a few loose ends I think needed tying up-like her family's reactions and such and wanted to go a bit further down the road than where it ended, but that just makes me want to read more of the author's work to see if we get any cameos/furthering of the story if there are future installments of the series.

The narration was hit and miss for me. I liked the voices and the pronunciation and loved the musical performance, but the cadence was sing-songy, and I found it a bit distracting. It wasn't enough to have me write off the narrator though, and given that the MC was a musician, I could kind of buy that he had an inherent rhythm to his speech--though that didn't really work for me when other characters "spoke." However, I think the positives were enough to outweigh that negative, and I would listen to another audiobook read by Zachary Liebenstein.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

Even better than the print version - which I loved

Would you consider the audio edition of Toccata Obbligato - Serenading Kyra (Out of the Box) to be better than the print version?

Zachary Liebesstein not only brings Todd O'Malley to life, he gives him new dimensions.

What did you like best about this story?

Bonus!!! The fabulous song Todd writes, Fairytale Man, is incorporated into the audiobook! It’s a can’t miss attraction!!!

What about Zachary Liebenstein’s performance did you like?

He has a strong range that really sucks me in. If Todd were not read right, he could come off as nothing but a creep. Instead, Liebenstein brings out dimensions of Todd that could easily get lost in the translation.

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed this stand-alone novella from the Out of the Box series. We get just enough Todd to satisfy the desires we all had for more. Todd sucks you into his mind, and heaven help you, he is exactly like you expected. This was a great treat.

Sweet read

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would be very careful recommending this book to a friend as the language is quite graphic. If language is not an issue for someone then it has a fun story-line. It is a novella .so it is short and sweet (just under 2 hours long), but a very enjoyable read overall

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I absolutely loved that the song was actually sung with music added into the audio, It really brought life to the story.

Which character – as performed by Zachary Liebenstein – was your favorite?

I don't really have a favorite character in this book, but I really liked his voice as he read the story. He is very easy to listen to..

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

This book would have to be a whole long more in depth, but it has potential and I could see myself watching it on the big screen.

A little disappointed

What made the experience of listening to Toccata Obbligato - Serenading Kyra (Out of the Box) the most enjoyable?

I adore these characters having originally read the book. It was nice to revisit there story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Toccata Obbligato - Serenading Kyra (Out of the Box)?

The first time Todd sings Fairytale Man to Kyra,

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

This is where I was most dissappointed. This was my first foray into audiobooks. The narrator was monotoned and gave no emotions in the reading of the story. It left me wanting more from the reading. Perhaps because Todd is such an over the top character I expected the reading to be more enthusiastic.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No I did not plan to nor did I listen to this all at once.
