About this listen

On a routine intelligence gathering mission in Tehran, Jack Ryan, Jr., has lunch with his oldest friend, Seth Gregory, an engineer overseeing a transcontinental railway project. As they part, Seth gives Jack a key, along with a perplexing message.

The next day Jack is summoned to an apartment where two men claim Seth has disappeared—gone to ground with funds for a vital intelligence operation. Jack’s oldest friend has turned, they insist.

They leave Jack with a warning: If you hear from Seth Gregory, call us immediately. And do not get involved.

But they don’t know Jack. He won’t abandon a friend in need.

His pursuit of the truth will lead him across Iran, through the war-torn Caucasus, and finally deep into territory coveted by the increasingly aggressive Russian Federation. Along the way, Jack is joined by Seth’s primary agent, Ysabel, a enigmatic Iranian woman who seems to be his only clue to Seth’s whereabouts.

Jack soon finds himself lost in a maze of intrigue, lies, and betrayal where no one is who they seem to be—not even Seth, who’s harboring a secret of his own that harkens back to the Cold War. A secret that is driving him to the brink of treachery.

Racing against the clock, Jack must unravel the mystery: Who is friend and who is foe? Before it’s over, Jack Ryan, Jr., may have to choose between his loyalty to Seth and his loyalty to America.

TomClancy passed away in 2013, for me it was very odd reading\listening to a book with TomClancy on the cover. The author used the same characters, tried to use the same complicated plot lines, then wave in some action scenes. Didnt quite get the job done. Wasnt as crisp as Clancy used to be. Wasnt as clear as Clancy used to be. Wasnt Clancy. Just use your own name and write the stories. It will still be good. The author is good. Just not TomClancy.

I loved the storyline. Kept me captivated from the start till the end. Reminded me off the original Jack Ryan novels.

Fantastic story line

I am pleasantly surprised with this version and really enjoyed the ongoing tradition of Tom Clancy thanks for keeping this going

continuing the Clancy tradition

I was very saddened to hear of Mr. Clancy's passing. He was a cultural icon to many of his loyal fans. Very happy to see his great tradition of amazing storytelling continue. Mr. Blackwood pays tribute to a great man in this book. Can't wait for more in the Jack Ryan Jr. Story.

Great Story

Exactly what I expect from a Clancy novel: International Intrigue, action and espionage, all with the requisite betrayals, and Machiavellian machinations. This time, Jack Ryan Jr. has to intuit whom he can trust- his lifelong friend? the British SIS agent? The CIA agent? The woman who apparently rescues him from uncertain death? And who's the sniper that blew the head off of the man about to kill him? You'll be up all night racking your brain to figure it out in time.

Enjoyed this story and performance. However, please take a few extra minutes to get closer to an intelligible version of Russian. Your effort at the pronunciation of Russian words was funny.

Another fun story!

What did you like best about Tom Clancy Under Fire? What did you like least?

This book was poorly written, and did not connect to any of the Clancy novels. If you want to write a book based on another author you should at least mimic the voice of the author. I think that the plot was alll over the place and that the far fetched story didn't really relate to Jack Ryan Jr.s Character or the entirety of the world that Tom Clancy had created

What do you think your next listen will be?

I think my next listen may be one of the David Baldacci stories.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Scott Brick is a master, although his style may not be for everyone, I enjoy the detail he inserts into characters, especially in technical writing like the Clancy series.

Was Tom Clancy Under Fire worth the listening time?

Not really, I am glad I read it, simply because I love the characters that Clancy created.

Dissapointing in a series of great books.

I have enjoyed almost every Tom Clancy, Jack Rysn series. I felt this story was written just to put another book into the series. Narrated well but weak story line that ended too abruptly. I need to be more careful in the future with this series, and not assume I am going to receive a quality experience.

Disapointed Story Line

totally awesome on the edge of your thriller. very good narration, it felt like I was there along side Jack Ryan and the others.

next thing to being there

First, let me say I enjoyed the book. It was solidly written, progressed well and kept the known cast "in character". It is not a stand alone book though. If you didn't already know the characters you would be lost, as they are not fully developed here. I'm ok with that personally, just be forewarned.

This is also not a classic Clancy novel. There is little tech or strategy, and even less attention spent on what little there is. It also is very single plotline, no twisting and no few surprises.i

Decent plot, good story, not a true Clancy novel.
