Publisher's summary

In this gripping thriller from the New York Times best-selling author of Out of the Ashes, an Islamic extremist is on a quest for vengeance after his only son is killed, and it's up to Op-Center to stop his lethal plot.

General Bob Underwood - a special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL - is en route to the Syrian city of al-Bukamal when a rocket-propelled grenade strikes the side of his Humvee, and the heavily armored convoy comes under attack. The general's bodyguard is brutally murdered, and Underwood himself is kidnapped. Hours later the president and top officials watch in horror from the Oval Office as the general is viciously beheaded by an ISIL leader - broadcast on live television through a direct feed from Al Jazeera.

The world is stunned by the bloody scene but even more so that this supposedly loose-knit terrorist organization was able to orchestrate a lethal attack on the world's most powerful military. American forces go into high gear on land and sea to retaliate, but when the ISIL leader's son is killed in an American bombing raid, his rage knows no bounds, and he determines to wreak vengeance on the American homeland itself.

With everything in the balance, Op-Center must assemble both its domestic strike force as well as its international intervention force - built around a seasoned squad operating out of the secretive unit that captured Osama bin Laden - to stay one step ahead of a ruthless enemy.

Not the Best

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Narrator. He has a voice that always seems to be breathless at each word. Very annoying. More suitable for a description of passionate embrace that a spy thriller.

Would you recommend Tom Clancy's Op-Center: Scorched Earth to your friends? Why or why not?

Would say it is only OK.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator has one voice inflection that is unsuitable for this type of novel.

Could you see Tom Clancy's Op-Center: Scorched Earth being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes. Unknown.

Last one I'll listen to

Just too formula, and a stupid action by a character as the basis of most of the action.

Not the best, not the worst.

Good story line but a little predictable and unrealistic. Near the end, it shows the bad guy as not thinking clearly and being more gentle with a captive.
We all know that the bad guys in the sandbox do more than punch and kick captives to get information they need.

With that said, I did like how the author opened the door for the next book.

The book is pretty average but very well read so I was perhaps a little generous in my ratings.

Terrible performance!

The performance was so bad I nearly stopped listening after the first chapter, and the story was lacking. I will not purchase another book in this series.

Wrong narrator!

Narrators voice would be better for a horror or mystery story. Just doesn't fit a military action story.. If you get back to his sinister voice , it's ok.

Over the top narration

While this third iteration of Op Center has decent storytelling, the narration is way too dramatic. Seems like every line is the most critical line in the story. Finish up.Greaneys Grey Man and Flynn’s Rapp series and of course Ben Coes Dewey Andreas before jumping into these.
