Lake Chapel was supposed to be my fresh start: an opportunity to reinvent myself, my chance to finally live.
Now, I'm grappling with the demons of my past… and losing.
To survive this setback, I'll need the support of the four possessive, domineering men who think I belong to them. But can my captors really be my salvation?
Worlds are bound to collide. Friendships will be tested, and rivalries are revving up.
I can't slip back into the dark—not now that I know what it's like to live in the light.
For the first time in my life, it's more than just me I'm fighting for. It's them. Kylian. Locke. Decker. Even Kendrick. It's all of them and all of us together.
My name is Josephine Meyer. But that hasn't always been my name. What will the boys of Lake Chapel think when they finally learn the truth?
Too Fast is the second book in the Boys of Lake Chapel series. It is a high heat why-choose sports romance featuring darker themes. Intended for mature listeners.

Great narration for the 2nd book in the series

This book starts off with something happening to Josephine, and the guys realize they will do anything to keep her safe. Josephine isn't sure who she can trust at first, but as the book goes on her relationship grows with all of the guys grow.
Something happens at the end of this book, that could tear her apart from the guys. I'm excited to continue on in this series, to see what happens next and if she gets her happy ending with all of the guys.

I’m flying through these books.

In this second book, we really get more of the boys and it was great to get insight into each of them. The depth of the relationships and their chemistry with Jo really come to the surface in this one. So much swoon, steam and SPICE! There is such fierce protectiveness from the guys - even Decker who tries in his own way. I do think that there is still a naiveté to how the characters approach the challenges before them, especially Decker's fame. But their connections and the way they come together in this newly found family really shines through.
And while Kylian (aka Stats Daddy) is still my favorite - I love how Locke and Kendrick shine in this one. Kendrick finally comes around and gives into his feelings and he is the biggest teddy bear that was hiding in plain sight. This one ends on a cliffhanger and immediately had me hitting play on book 3 to see how this story concludes.

You can feel Joey’s pain but also her growth

The relationship between Joey and Kendrick is missing something for me. Kendrick was cruel and standoffish for an entire book and then he did a 180 within the first half of this one. I appreciated the author (and Joey’s) call out on this very thing. But that one relationship is behind the curve imo.
I’m very curious as to how the third book will wrap everything up especially given what happened.
One thing that did bother me was the voice actor for Kendrick and his “feminine” voice for Joey’s speaking parts. I could not handle it at all. I actually cringed while walking my dog and almost wanted to skip the scene. He’s an amazing Kendrick, but it stops there for me.

When someone assaults and batters another (as the photographer did with her), she (or a third party) is entitled to use force to defend against the attack. At the very least, the initial aggressor would be arrested along with the one who defended her. More likely, the one who defended her would not be arrested. When combined with her incredibly unrealistic backstory (videos of the assault would have been more than sufficient for convictions), I’m just too frustrated to continue the series. There are plenty of ways to get this story to the same place without these tactics.
Frustrating

It became just a never ending stream of inner dialogue and very little actual story.
