About this listen

Texas Ranger Major Ricky Strong and Senator Christine Richmond strive to maintain their "friendship" as they become embroiled in situations that could make or destroy their careers. Ricky hunts a savage serial killer while trying to provide protection for the headstrong senator as Christine takes on the task of securing agreements with Mexico to build a wall along the Texas border. The two become embroiled in life and death situations as they battle to keep each other alive. Fast action and romance make this one of the top romantic thrillers of the year.

I did not finish this yet

So here us my assessment of this book so far. I like the premise if the story overall but stopped listening on chapter 18 as I could never tell the 2 main characters apart. This really suprised me as I have listened to Victoria Mei before and always felt she did well. This is an older novel so maybe that is why. I do want to finish this story at some point but need to put ut down and move onto another book for now.

Excellent story.

This book wasn’t all about politics as some negative reviews have stated. The story was well written and I loved the characters. It had me in the edge the whole way through, and the ending.. wow. Never saw that coming! Victoria Mei was awesome with the narration. Highly recommend.

Ending was a stretch

I loved this for the most part. I had a few problems with the ranger’s basic lack of reaction to what happens to one person. Don’t want to give anything away here so I can’t go into detail.

I thought the killer’s identity was not believable by a long shot. That’s why I gave 3 stars for the story. I enjoyed the two main characters. This book is well worth the read.

I struggle with this narrator. Good book overall, though.

I was caught up in the story. Suspenseful enough to hold my interest. Parts of it felt rushed, however, and I’m not sure how much was due to the narration. I had to rewind often to get a sense of how much time had passed. It wasn’t always obvious. Also, I was often confused as to who was speaking. The voices weren’t consistent.
It’s possible it would translate differently if reading instead of listening. Still not a waste of time. Pretty good book overall.

Like two books in one

Two separate mysteries that were exciting from beginning to end. I almost did not listen due to length, but glad I did. I would recommend listening.

I enjoyed it.

It was pretty good. I just thought the women were pretty dumb in there romance. It really got on my nerves.

I would listen to every book Victoria Mei narrates

Victoria Mei is fabulous at her narration of books. Her voice is seductive indeed. Bravo.

Political propaganda

Unfortunately the story was good but too much politics. This story features, a what I assume to be, a Trump supporting Republican senator who is working on building a wall, curbing immigration, and passing a anti same sex marriage bill and don’t ask don’t tell policy. In the end she reverses her opinion on marriage equality and don’t ask don’t tell policy (after she falls in love and wants to get married) but still references how important building a wall is. Also, she says things like illegal immigrants are stealing American jobs. Wade makes Mexico seem Like it’s full of drug cartels and murderers. She even went as far as making the protagonist say that shooting people crossing the border was something that she wanted to pass. I love Wade’s books but this one was a no go for me due to too much political view points. Glad this wasn’t my first of her books otherwise I would’ve never read anymore of her books. This usually isn’t her MO so I was a bit surprised.

Unless I know that I’m reading a political article or book, I prefer my nonfiction books to not show the political viewpoints of the author.
