About this listen

The only way you’ll leave Auschwitz is through the chimney.

The words still rang in Agnes Markx’s head as she left the Judenramp and the hive of activity around the train behind. As a nurse assigned to Block 10, she realizes the stories of the horrors transpiring here weren’t exaggerated. Now an unwilling accomplice in the Nazi doctors’ medical experiments, she vows to save as many women under her care as possible.

Electrician Joel Kozak has access to all areas of the gargantuan camp. When the underground camp resistance reaches out to him one day, he discovers his appointment wasn’t by accident.

As a stoker in Birkenau’s crematoria, Samson Tarski witnesses more death in an hour than most people in a lifetime. The thought of stepping into the gas chambers and ending his struggle is always on his mind. But when one of his friends shares a bold plan to rise up and destroy the buildings of death, he finds a renewed sense of purpose.

These three strangers are now part of an attempt to achieve the impossible without knowing each other.

To rise up, destroy the Auschwitz-Birkenau death factory, and escape to tell the world about it.

Based on actual events, Tracks to Freedom is a story of bravery and the battle to retain one’s humanity in a place where there is none.

I felt the one narrator was speaking to a group of school children. the story and history kept me interested so I listen to the end. Michael did his research to present a true historical fiction novel.

the fact of the history. I appreciate while the story based on facts it did not get to graphic

Excellent read, hard to read at times but important for everyone to remember this atrocious time in history. Thank you to a wonderful writer

This book was much better than book 1 of this trilogy…this story offered more details about the characters and their lives. It was action packed and left you holding your breath…hoping for the best🙏🏼although deep down you knew how it would end.

Great book! The narration left a lot to be desired. The characters in the book are all Polish/Dutch/German and the narrator speaks with the same accent for every individual throughout the book. The only time he doesn’t use the accent is when he reads from passages without dialogue. It became very tedious to listen to the same accent so I didn’t finish the book. Really sad considering the book is great and ties very well with the first in the series

Very well written and ties well with the first book in the series.

In the beginning I almost gave up on this book because of the narrator. I found him to be monotone, stilted and unemotional. But I’m very glad I did not! This was a gripping tale of brutality, love and defiance and the determination of a few for the betterment of many. You should read it!

Great story but awful narration

It would be impossible to put into words how much I enjoyed this book. I listened to it on audio book. The narration really brought it to life. Thank you Mr Reit for the story and Mr Maddaloni for the narration. You’ve found a forever fan.

The stories of each character and how they blended with the first book - Tracks to Freedom was nice to follow.., I knew some of the characters already… the narrator was outstanding!!! So many accents and languages… very good book!! Read the 3 series for sure… on to the Botanist’s Tracks!

Page turner!!! Had to keep listening…my husband found me in my garage 30 minutes after I arrived home!!

As disturbing as the story is, the least we can do is acknowledge the atrocities and never forget. The sparks of courage showcase the strength of the human spirit. My only criticism is the robotic voice of the narrator. Thank you, Michael.

Disturbing yet needed
