About this listen

In an unnamed Third World country, in the not-so-distant future, three “dumpsite boys” make a living picking through the mountains of garbage on the outskirts of a large city.

One unlucky-lucky day, Raphael finds something very special and very mysterious. So mysterious that he decides to keep it, even when the city police offer a handsome reward for its return. That decision brings with it terrifying consequences, and soon the dumpsite boys must use all of their cunning and courage to stay ahead of their pursuers. It’s up to Raphael, Gardo, and Rat - boys who have no education, no parents, no homes, and no money - to solve the mystery and right a terrible wrong.

Andy Mulligan has written a powerful story about unthinkable poverty - and the kind of hope and determination that can transcend it. With twists and turns, unrelenting action, and deep, raw emotion, Trash is a heart-pounding, breath-holding novel.

Trash is a riveting story that grabs your attention and your heartstrings. The characters come to life and the narration is well done. Sometimes rats accent become a bit Russian but you love him anyway. Trash is well written thought-provoking and memorable.

Great read for family with older children

I must say, there was a lot of unsespected things that were happening on the book but that's the part where is fell in love with the book. I was surprised when it's heard Jun-juns voice but that's how the boys described him to sound like. i live this action packed book!

The book was incredible!

The voice acting made it seem like a movie. And the story kept me on the edge of my seat.

Great Story and Actors!

My students love this book every year. My only problem with this recording is that Chapter 9 of Part 3 isn't the full chapter. It starts in the middle. Very annoying since this is the first time we hear from Rat and the anticipation is ruined by the fact that I have to read the first few pages to the class and then start where the recording picks up on pg. 133.

Good mystery about government corruption, extreme poverty, and friendship. Mostly good performances, but I'm wondering why they couldn't get a Spanish speaker to read for Rat; the boy who narrates Rat sounds like he's attempting an Eastern European accent.
