About this listen

Stubbornness has landed private eye V.I. Warshawski in big trouble at her Chicago office. With her grand old Loop building set to be razed, she's become a hold-out tenant amid frayed wiring and scary, empty corridors. Then she finds a homeless woman with three kids in the basement, and before she can rescue them, they disappear. Worst of all, she's been implicated in a murder - after the body of Deirdre Messenger, a prominent lawyer's wife, turns up sprawled across her desk.

V.I., who had volunteered with Deirdre at a women's shelter, suspects her death is linked to a case of upper-class domestic abuse so slickly concealed that the police refuse to believe it. Increasingly at odds with the cops, V.I. is blindly plunging ahead after the truth. And her path may lead to corruption at the highest levels or deep into the abandoned tunnels beneath Chicago's streets, where secrets are hiding in the dark like a child's - or V.I.'s - worst nightmare.

"Tunnel Vision", a Paretsky best.

Always enjoy the Paretsky stories with the interplay of characters, of which Tunnel Vision has many, and a very involved plot. I like that, and it keeps my mind from wandering.
The narrator, Susan Ericksen, walks the line and talks the talk for a perfect Vic, or would it be Vick? I'm an audible person anymore, and haven't read a Paretsky in paper for many years. Though, I could remember liking the author and the story. Now I'm hooked on Audible.com.

Good

It’s intense to follow the multitude of characters, but I think you’ll find it worth it.

Intense and well written

I love that she is unabashedly feminist.
I mean the majority of men that right right there males to be strong, somewhat misogynistic definitely chauvinistic, so why can’t we have this character stick to her feminist guns. And truth, her character is just a strong woman, trying to remain independent, and not subservient in a male, dominated world and feel that she is in. This was a really good story and I think it’s definitely worth the read or the listen should I say.

Good listening

The performance is outstanding. Little too long but enjoyed. It was a bit challenging keeping up with the different characters. Madge

Excellent voice and fast pace sorry

This was my first book that I listened to by this author and I am so glad to have stumbled on it. Fast paced, full of characters and moving plot. I can't wait to go back and listen to her other books.

My favorite VI story so far

Memorable characters, especially, the lovable downstairs retired machinist and finally a more believable romance for the PI. The audiobook version offer many generous and satisfying hours of listening.

Best so far

This is the best of get series. The writing can become tedious but this was easier to read than those that came before. More than 25 years since this book was written and the nothing has changed with his sexual abuse and domestic violence victims are treated by law enforcement and other authority figures.

Great performance! Story is complex

This one was fun but you have to pay attention, the plot is intricate. Maybe even overstuffed with problems that VI must take on. This is Set in the 90s (when the book was written) with communication problems —especially around telephones— that give this a dated flavor. But the characters are all compelling and interesting. I enjoyed it!

Definitely tunnel vision

One thing that always gets me in these books so far is she is never ready for the unexpected (definitely not a scout - who is always prepared). I immensely enjoy the setting of Chicago where my father went to school and meet my mother - and I have visited many times throughout my life.
