DNF

I’m sorry. I just couldn’t. The narrator did a really good job with voices but the dialogue he was having to deliver was far too immature for the age of these characters.

Reader Allen Jeffries rocked the heck out of this!

BL Maxwell proves to be the first to the finish line with getting her contribution to the Malicious Gods: Egypt series to the audio format. Tutu was an Egyptian god worshipped by ordinary people all over Egypt during The Late Period which existed from 664 BC until 332 BC. Tutu was placed in a position of power over demons and it was his role to slay them. Originally the protector of tombs, Tutu was stated to have given protection from demons, giving longer life and protecting people from the Netherworld.
In the writer's incarnation, Tutu shares a symbiotic relationship with Tommy Smythe who comes from a long line of human demon slayers that can be traced back to the time when Tutu was worshipped in Egypt. Every generation, a member is asked to serve as the vessel of Tutu to expedite the fight against demons. Tommy accepted the honor when he was 18-years-old. He and his sister Lola are the last of their line, right at a time when the fighting against demons is at its fiercest. Chasing down a water demon who kills a couple of humans, Tommy prevents it from killing the third. It is at this point Tommy discovers Kit Nelson.
Kit Nelson's upbringing is far from ideal being raised by parents who belonged to a demon-worshipping cult. It was their desire to offer Kit as a sacrifice in becoming a vessel the demon Rerek. His parents among others are killed during the ritual but Kit is marked and released for future capturing. He is befriended by a demon hunter who teaches him how to protect and defend himself but his motives seem to benefit Rerek. As luck would have it, Rerek becomes interested in reclaiming Kit after he has warranted the protection of Tutu incarnate.
In this urban fantasy story, writer BL Maxwell gives readers one outstanding piece of realism--Kit Nelson's unwillingness to trust others! The author carves out totally credible actions and reactions for Kit that make him a plausible yet brave character. That he has a bit of fight in him is laudable, given past betrayals from those who should or claim to care for him. Then the writer allows him to share his feeling of loneliness, giving the audience a credible reason for him taking a chance on Tommy and his sister Lola. The character Tommy is larger-than-life even without the god Tutu. And Lola is a delightful portion of enjoyment and excitement. Ms. Maxwell's story checks all of the necessary boxes for a truly remarkable tale and narrator Allen Jeffries renders an incredible performance for this excellent story.

loved it

I loved this book. Allen Jeffries does an amazing job and makes you love the characters even more. Since a young age Kit Nelson has had run in with demons because of his parents. He is on his own and can trust no one. He knows what the demons want. But how long can he dodge them. Tommy Smythe and Lola (his sister) have been fighting evil forces for years. They have weapons and Tutu ( Egyptian god) who hunts demons. But a demon Rerek has come for what he was promised Kit body. Can Kit, Tommy, and Lola stop Rerek before its to late and save Kit?

Fast Paced Paranormal

I enjoyed this story. It was a really interesting take on a demon hunter protagonist and the world-building was well done and thorough. Kit, Tommy/Tutu and Lola make a good ensemble cast. There was plenty of suspense and the audio kept me engaged. I liked each of the main characters and their interactions. The narrator used distinct character voices and did fairly well with the story's nuances. I felt Tutu's voice was very well done, commanding and precise (as I would expect from an Egyptian god). I did have some trouble initially with Kits voice as it felt a little immature for the character. However, it is more important to me to be able to distinguish each character by voice and Allen Jeffries definitely did so.

Another Wonderful Narration by Allen Jeffries

If you love BL Maxwell and Allen Jeffries, then you’ll enjoy Tutu! Tutu was a great listen thanks to Allen’s uniquely deep drawl that always sends shivers down my spine, I’m never disappointed when I listen to an audiobook by BL Maxwell because she really knows what she wants from the narrator to bring her men to life.
