About this listen
Written by renowned surgeon and expert on the art of aging, Dr. M.E. Hecht, with her friend Whoopi Goldberg lending her unique point of view, Two Old Broads is laugh-out-loud funny and tells it like it is for all of us who left middle age in the dust and want to be present, positive, and as extraordinary as ever in our golden years.
Whoopi joins Dr. Hecht in a lively conversation about growing older with no apologies. Dr. Hecht, who passed away a few short months prior to publication, shares her 93 years of wisdom with Whoopi and their fellow “broads.” Together, these two kindred spirits will help you:
- stay active physically and mentally
- make finalizing your will more rewarding than it sounds
- navigate tricky subjects, such as whether you need a home aide
- win friends and influence people or take a nap, depending on the day
- discover joy in relationships even when your excretions outweigh your secretions
- get up financially, physically, and emotionally after a fall
- keep a sense of humor about getting older (of course!)
Imminently practical and rooted firmly in the adage that getting older is not for sissies, Two Old Broads is the aging book for the ages. You've survived the past; why not embrace the present and prepare for the future so you thrive and find more time to laugh along the way?

Story
There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with listeners, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things—a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Story
Throughout my life I have done things my way, and they have always worked out - as if I've had luck in my corner. All of my optimism and bravado came to a crashing halt one cold December holiday night, when after an evening out with good friends, I suffered an accident. I was beaten with a pipe and later found under a moving train, resulting in quadriplegia. Given virtually no chance to walk again, I was devastated. But I also had hope, and lots of it. A fire that exists deep within, and has since childhood, burns on no matter the circumstances. I am here for a bigger mission. What would that mission now be?

Story
You get ready to die the way you get ready for a trip. Start by realizing you don't know the way. Listen to a few travel guides. Study the language, look at maps, gather equipment. Let yourself imagine what it will be like. Pack your bags. This book is one of those travel guides - a guide to preparing for your own death and the deaths of people close to you. The fact of death is hard to believe. Sallie Tisdale explores our fears and all the ways death and talking about death make us uncomfortable - but she also explores its intimacies and joys.

Are you still playing a role you learned in childhood to please others, such as the Good Girl/Boy, the Overachiever, or the Helper? Though these kinds of roles may have gained us attention and affection, they prohibited us from becoming our true selves. People-pleasing—putting others ahead of ourselves to avoid something negative or to get something we want or need—runs rampant in our society. Saying yes when we should say no leaves us stuck in frustrating patterns.

Excellent advice, miss Ms Goldberg's voice.
This is a very needed and informative book. Dr Hecht pulls no punches, I enjoyed the narrator for Dr. Hecht. It would've been an additional plus to include Ms Goldberg's voice audio. The narration for Ms Goldberg was good, but sometimes hearing the true speakers voice, when available and talented as Ms Goldberg, adds flavor to the audio narration. Especially when you know the delivery will be genuinely authentic and captivating. I do plan to listen to this audio book again. It's needed in order to take in all the great aging wisdom from the experienced doctor and the longevity griot. God bless Dr.Hecht and Ms Goldberg for leaving us old broads this much needed information. I have a better understanding of that term "old broad" than before. I will pass some of this wisdom on to my old man of 45 years!

I now have several reasons to grow up with pride in my years of gathering wisdom thank you DR H
I truly hope Dr H realized the impact this book, her lessons would have to more than "Old Broads" I recently turned 65. Dealing with my lack of balance, mobility getting out of bed acks and pains has been a surprise struggle for this gay man who has been very active throughout my life. I'm wise beyond my years. HIV positive since 1986, My life has never been a "poor me" story. I've picked myself up before. why not keep on the same track. Keep moving forward with both eyes open. and arms welcoming the days ahead. Thanks DR H. and Whoppie I've loved you for years.

Awesome book
Great quick read and highly informative as you age. I’m 60 and it was very gel to me. I think others in the 50ish -65ish time will find this a very valuable book. I really loved Dr ME’s humor. I wish we had more input from Whoopi, but that’s ok. I will be using some things I learned here. Great book!

Good Book
Light hearted and fun, with good advice! M.E. Hecht was witty and clearly knew her stuff, may she rest in peace. Whoopi was funny as always.
