About this listen

Would you - could you? - uphold the law at the cost of those you love? Falcio val Mond, First Cantor of the Greatcoats, is on the brink of fulfilling his dead King's dream: Aline is about to take the throne and restore the rule of law once and for all. But for the Greatcoats, nothing is ever that simple.

In neighbouring Avares, an enigmatic new warlord is uniting the barbarian armies, and, even worse, he is rumoured to have a new ally: Falcio's old nemesis Trin. With the armies of Avares at her back, she'll be unstoppable.

Falcio, Kest and Brasti go racing north to stop her, but in those cold, treacherous climes they discover something altogether different - and far more dangerous: a new player plans to take the throne of Tristia, and the Greatcoats, for all their determination and skill, may not be able to stop him.

A powerful moving book

I have enjoyed everything about this Great Coats quartet. I was enraptured by the first book and greedily devoured the next two. I inhaled their words so quickly that I felt I had to go back and relisten to book 2 and 3 to really understand and digest the words. I took the last book in much slower and it was just wonderful. I truly appreciate how the author maintained the fun swashbuckling acts and humor throughout each book while also evoking deep emotions of love and sorrow. I am thoroughly impressed with this author's talent and dedication to his craft. I can feel his passion for his characters throughout.
I would highly encourage anyone to read this series. I especially recommend this series for anyone who is a fan of Three Musketeers or The Princess Bride.

Touch and go for a bit, but a solid finish

I’ve loved this series. As a whole book 4 was not a great book, but it did wrap up and finish a great series. I loved the ending, but there were a lot of book 4 decisions that I wish were approached differently. Overall, a good, not great arc in an otherwise fantastic series.
