Publisher's summary

Slade Cruz is a dick.

He’s intimidating, sexy as sin, and unpredictably wild. His eyes draw me in while his vicious smirk screams at me to run and never look back. I’m a toy to him, a pawn to use in his devilish games.

I’ve already suffered through hell and back, and if it’s games he wants, then it’s games he’ll get, but he should be warned: This time, it’s my turn to play the lead.

This time, I get to be the devil.

Aston Creek High was supposed to be my fresh start. This was my one shot at freedom, but he had other plans for me. Slade Cruz was never a part of my plan, but he sure as hell made me part of his. I thought I was through with fighting to survive, but it seems as though the games have only just begun.

Give it your best shot, Slade. I’m ready.

Great Start

What a great start to this dark high school bully romance. I really loved getting to know these characters and I'm loving Skylah's mysterious and dangerous past. She's a touch too bad A for me... But knowing it's to hide her pain helps me forgive her for it. With this being a four book series I expected more bullying, but I can get behind where her and Slade are at towards the end of book one. That cliffhanger was a bit of a doozy and I can't wait to dive back into this series and see what happens next.

Stephanie Kay is quickly becoming a favorite narrator of mine. She does such a great job voicing female leads and I really enjoy listening to her work.

Can't Wait to See What Happens

Title: Ugly Girl
Author: Sheridan Anne
Format: Audio
Narrator: Stefanie Kay
Genre: Romance, Bully, Dark, YA/NA, Enemies to Lovers, Mafia
Standalone: Nope
Part of a Series: Aston Creek High book 1
POV: Skylah
Steam Level: Some steam and also some mentions of past dark sexual content
5/5

Sheridan Anne is a master at YA/NA, HS Bully, Enemies-to Lovers. I was hooked in from the start. I loved Skylah's bad attitude and ability to stand up for herself. While some themes are quite dark, Sheridan Anne does a great job in these scenes not being too graphic while also getting the point across. I cannot wait to see what happens and the bombshell at the end was unexpected. What a tremendous ride!

I received this audiobook from Pink Flamingo Productions and Audiobook Obsessions. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Good story line

So far I’m liking the strong female character. I like the fact she pushes her self. The only thing that bothers me is the repeat of the male Slades full name over and over; actually it’s all books that do that. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series

pleasantly surprised

I’m not as into young adult romance as I used to be. But when I saw this was by Sheridan Anne, I just had to have it. I loved Skylah’s character. She’s a strong, confident female who doesn’t take chit from anyone. She’s your ride or die bestie. I didn’t much care for Slade, I’ll be honest. But that’s a personal preference versus a writing flaw. If you dislike bully romances, like I do, then you probably won’t like him either. Slade is cocky and ruthless. I understand the appeal that some have in bully romances, it just isn’t for me personally. That being said, Sheridan Anne’s writing style kept me captivated. Once Skylah’s secrets are revealed, the bully turns into the boy of your dreams. I found myself rooting for him to get the girl. And I didn’t know I could feel this much smeggsial tension in a ya audiobook! I’m just saying, if Sheridan can get me, hater of bully ya romances, to enjoy the story then you know the writing is excellent! With that intense cliffhanger, I’ll for sure be listening to the next book!
Stefanie Kay was perfectly cast for this role. I’d listened to her once before and thought she was great. She was just as wonderful in this performance too. Her flow, pitch, pace, and tone were exemplary. Part of the reason I stayed captivated in a genre that I don’t typically like is because of her exceptional ability to deliver and perform. Thank you to Pink Flamingo Productions for gifting me this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

A Dark High School Bully Romance

Ugly Girl by Sheridan Anne is a dark high school bully romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Stefanie Kay. This is the first book in the Aston Creek High series.

I absolutely love Sheridan's books! I was hooked from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I do have to say Sheridan does an amazing job on cliffhangers that leave you begging for more.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Lost Girl to be released on audio so I can get more of Skylah's story.

Stefanie did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, bully romances, or high school romances.

What a rollercoaster of emotions!

So I will be upfront, I did not like the MC in the beginning. Her attitude and the way she was portrayed by the narrator grated on my nerves a bit but she definitely grew on me. Maybe that was the point haha. I was not expecting to smile or laugh as much as I did in this one. This series might take out the others by this author that were already my favorite. I think for me, the side characters, esp Blake, stole the show! I am hoping he gets a story because his loyalty and way he takes care of his sister made my heart flutter. I mean he does make mistakes but he is a teenager so its expected haha.

I did have some whiplash with the potential friends of Skyla. I couldnt believe how the one treated her and I totally side with Skyla and then the potential other friend is an intriguing case. Won’t say more since more to come in book 2! Like that is total girl code and when she had a little to drink she threw her loyalty out the window. I was happy she went to the wayside. I also thought Damien was hilarious and is really a sweet guy despite his bravado and attitude. The way he would check on her and decided they were going to be friends melted my heart and gave me awwww moments haha. He deserves some love, hopefully he gets some or his own standalone.

I thought the plot line was a little OTT but it’s fiction so who cares haha. I really like the intricacies and how we got more revealed at the book went on. We don’t know all that happened to Skyla and her family but as more questions are answers you can’t help feeling for her and rooting her on in her pursuit of normalcy and happiness. She is one BA character and deserves all the good things after all she has been through. I like that she doesnt hold back. She has no issues getting physical, and tries her best to be there for her brother. The yearbook moments touched me, the way her aunt tried to be there for her. So adorable and heartbreaking at the same time. The bigger twists were an added bonus, with who knew her mom and stuff that happened in the past that is critical for the characters now. Nope, not giving anything away!!

Narration was good, I thought it got better as the book went on. I would have given it 3.5 in the beginning but by the end it was definitely 4-4.5 stars. Some moments that were really upsetting/sad or high emotional/tension were done extremely well. The way she brought all the characters to life was impressive. I appreciated how she portrayed Slade and the other guys (esp Blake) and would 100% listen to her in the future, even if there was no male narrator for the book. Good job, already devouring book 2 and it gets even better <3

Excellent first installment in the Series!

This is the first book in the Aston Creek High series, a Dark Bully Romance. This is an excellent first installment in Slade and Skylah's story. The characters are well developed, and they are intriguing. The storyline is filled with mystery, danger, and twists and turns. Skylah is feisty, and strong. Her story is heartbreaking. Slade is enigmatic,. They are like fire together. The supporting characters are great. I liked Skylah's brother Blake. The story ends with a big cliffhanger, and I am looking forward to listening to Lost Girl, the next book in the series. Stefanie Kay did a fantastic job with the narration. I enjoyed it. #TheFlock
