About this listen

It's like being there... only you can fast-forward and rewind.

"I call it time-surfing," Abby said. "It's like being there, except no one can see or hear us."

"Whatever you call it," John said, "that was crazy - what we just did. Beyond realistic. I mean, I was in that guy's head and knew everything he was thinking."

Abby's weird computer program is working again. And it comes in handy when she and her friends agree to help the Old Dears with their family tree.

Except Abby and John learn more about one of the ladies' ancestors than they ever wanted to know. Convicted in 1871 of murder and arson, Reuben Buchanan is a blight on the family's reputation. But was he really guilty? Abby and John must get inside the mind of a murderer to find out.

And while they're rummaging around in the Old Dears' family history, they also find Nathan Buchanan, a heroic relative connected to the Lewis and Clark Expedition - and a legacy waiting to be reclaimed. But the most important discovery they make is that God's promise to bless a thousand generations is true.

It was fascinating to see the past as it was. Of course, the main characters have connections to famous figures of the past, however small. I wish I had that program on my computer. I got this book from the narrator and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I enjoyed book 2 in the "History Mystery Series" more than the first one. This story featured Abbey and her friends becoming involved with twin sisters, who were working on their family tree. I appreciated the addition of actual historical events interweaved into the sisters' family history. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Michelle Babb's narration was great, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Great Historical Mystery

Unclaimed Legacy, second in the History Mystery series by Deborah Heal, is as good as the first. The techno-time travel via a somewhat quirky computer program is certainly a unique way to see the past. Once again pre-teen Merri and her summer tutor, Abby are off to solve the mystery of an old house. Their neighbors are a delightful pair of 85-year old twins, dubbed 'The Old Dears' and they have skeletons in their closet that Abby, Merri and John are set to rattle. Can the truth be found? Was The Old Dears ancestor really a murderer? Will Abby and John finally declare their affection for each other? They danced around their relationship in the first book, Time and Again. Michelle Babb does a great job of narration, bringing back the voices of Abby and Merri and adding in the new characters with their own personalities. Sisters, secrets and summer fun mixed with Christian values all make for a great page-turning story.

I was given this audio book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book as much as the first one. I am so in love with the basic concept. It is a time travel book, but the main characters are just observers of the other times, they aren't physically transported. It all happens through a computer program.
The main characters are Abby and Merri, tutor and student. John also plays a bigger role in this book than in the first. He is the romantic interest of Abby and he's also now their fellow "Time Surfer".
Two of the new characters in this book are twin ladies in their eighties. They are really something! Listening to this book is worth it, just to get to know these old gals. They are working on a family tree and run across an ancestor who has been scratched out of the family Bible. Abby, Merri and John are determined to find out what happened to him. The time surfing unveils many troublesome instances and some gruesome things, but this is still a Christian book. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the characters and the narration.

Another very interesting book!
