About this listen

Here it is. The whole entire story of the Book of Genesis as told to you by the world's oldest storyteller, Uncle Bob.

(Note: if you have already listened to Uncle Bob's Red Flannel Bible Camp: From Eden to the Ark, you have already heard part of this novel.)

If you think you know the truth behind the Bible Stories you really ought to pick up a copy of this book. If you are one of those folks who thinks that it is bad manners to giggle a little in church - well, you might want to take a good listen to the sample before you go throwing down any of your hard-earned money.

This isn't exactly a solemn retelling of the Bible. In fact, I guarantee a giggle or two along the way. The fact is this is the story of the Book of Genesis as retold by a country gentleman who read the Bible a couple of times and is doing his level best to retell it in his own words.

Means he takes some liberties with the Gospel.

Or - in the words of Uncle Bob - this here is mostly the truth with only a few lies stirred into the broth for pepper.

Don't say I did not warn you!

Everyone needs an Uncle Bob

Loved Uncle Bob's retelling of these class biblical stores. Listened with my little ones and he had us giggling. Definitely needs to be taken with a grain of salt and an open mind. I definitely will be listening to it again in the future.

Absolutely Awesome

I'll start by saying this book it not at all offensive from a Christian Perspective, so if that's a concern of yours, you can put that to rest. What it is, is a smart, crafty, and hilarious Bible lesson as told by an eccentric uncle who you can't help but love. The funniest book I've listened to in a long time. The performance is also excellent. Seriously, this is a must-listen. Brilliant!

Jean Shepherd sensibilities meets the bible

Humor is hard. Ask any comedian. Most would rather die than bomb, and they work harder than a politician caught in a scandal. That is why I was surprised to see Steve Vernon, and author I really respect as a writer of horror themed books for the most part (OK, Kelpie Dreams and its kin don't apply here) doing comedy. Ok, I'll even separate Kelpie Dreams, as that had massive elements of the fantastic to pull in laughs. This is just straight up modern life seen through the eye lens of that uncle your family gets ambarrassed about.

In many ways, this story made me think of the way Jean Shepherd (A Christmas Story fame) tells stories. The funny just kind of blurts out naturally. Like Uncle Bob talking about God smoking a cigarette. I also have to agree with Vernon, everyone needs an Uncle Bob.

My family is catholic, my wife fairly devout, too. Kind of one of those "Don't tell me you only go to mass on Wednesdays and Sundays!" kind of catholics. We all listened to this together in the car, and everyone snickered, chuckled, laughed, and guffawed at some point. Repeatedly. So is the book funny you ask? Well it sure brought some big smiles to our faces as we listened.

Oh, and speaking of listening, remember me talking about Shepherd? Well, he narrated a Christmas Story, too. I think Allen kind of channeled his spirit, because he has that same quality, a rare gift in that he can tell you something straighfaced and straightlaced, but add that spin then lets you know he's aware of the joke. Enough that you laugh along with him. This was all too short, and I hope to hear more from Uncle Bob in the future. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Funny Approach to Bible!

Uncle Bob is like a cross between Jeff Foxworthy and Duck Dynasty. I enjoyed his version of the Genesis stories. Get ready to laugh!

The Bible as told by hicks

Uncle Bob's Bible Camp is a hilarious retelling of the first book of the Bible. It's told from the perspective of Uncle Bob, as he tells the story to a kid. He's a bit of a hick, and makes most of the characters in the story to be a bit of hicks. He throws in some opinion on why he thinks things happened or what God was thinking, much of the ideas being silly. But mostly, its just a whole lot of fun.

It tells the complete story - not just the well known parts - which makes it a great, fun, entertaining way to learn the story of Genesis.

But in it's retelling it carries a strange mix of revent and irreverent. It seems to respect the story in some ways, saying how it is an important story to know, but also doesn't shy away from (and even shines a light on) some of the more strange bits of the book.

As a believer, but one with a sense of humour about religion, I really enjoyed the book.

If you enjoyed this, check out 'God is Disappointed in You'. If you enjoyed that book, you will enjoy this - it is similar, just more in depth as it only covers one book, not all 66.

Scott Allen does wonderful narration. He really get's the humour and the timing of the jokes in his reading. He performs characters through. He is clear and well paced and the recording quality is good. All round a really enjoyable performance that brought the book to life.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
