Publisher's summary

Mark Russell & Shannon Wheeler's faithful yet irreverent approach to the Bible made their book God Is Disappointed in You a modern cult classic. Now, by popular demand, they turn their attention to the best parts left out of the canonical Bible, including the Midrash, the Apocrypha, Gnostic Gospels, and more! And if you thought the Bible had some weird stuff in it....

wonderfully put

I loved this performance with the author, it kind of caught me off guard. But yet it is a good listener for such a topic.

I LOVE these people!

If you're the sort that can't tolerate foul language or religious humor, this audiobook is NOT FOR YOU. Many people learn through dark humor and I'm one of them. Keep them coming!

Love this book It's funny and makes you think !

What did you love best about Apocrypha Now?

Everything ,loved the narrator !

What other book might you compare Apocrypha Now to and why?

I haven't read any other book but part of the original Apocrypha which is huge !

Which scene was your favorite?

Adam and Eve ,Jacob, Joseph, Lol Abraham, all of them, sorry !

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes ,what moved me was the truth in the book and how it makes you think about what we have been taught from others, but if we really examine what we have been taught we will see the truth verses, the lie. In my opinion. .

Any additional comments?

Thank you to the writer and thank you to the narrator you made the book come alive ! I had not read your book God is disappointed in you Soooo, I bought that too. Thanks again

Interesting and Funny

The book was very good, but the narrator really put it over the top and made it great. Parts made me laugh out loud and I feel like I learned a little about the topic.

My only criticism is that it wasn't always clear which parts the author was embellishing for comedic effect and which were from the original story.

Wonderful, humorous, and respectful!

I loved this!! It's amazing and provides historical context for the writings.

It's humor lies in the modern day relatable dialogue interpretations, not on mockery of the texts. It's amazing and insightful!

Shines a light on absurdity of it all

As others have mentioned, the book is generally respectful... for a while. But at some point, the penny will have to drop for the religious folks who listen, of whom I am not one. The ridiculousness of the whole project is laid bare, and it's left to mull the who's and why's of the exclusion of some stories that helps to further expose the big con. The stories are presented humorously, but even though it's a short book, it's best to take it in small doses.

Awesome book. Finish trilogy...? Pretty please.

If you could sum up Apocrypha Now in three words, what would they be?

The inclusion (or follow-up) with the Gnostic texts is excellent.
Very contemporary. Well written & performed.

To Authors / illustrator: Can you finish the trilogy, pretty please? Pick a date. Maybe 600 CE. It’s nice and round. Go from there.

It’s sad that I learned more about religion from your book than any other source. Feel “happy with yourselves”, you earned it. Could you please continue the trilogy. Pretty please.

Which character – as performed by James Urbaniak – was your favorite?

James has a great range of character voices. Also liked his use of "pause" to express the meaning, not just the letter, of the book.

a little different story for a baptist girl

I'd always heard stories about Lilith and different aspects of the stories in this book but being a southern baptist was never told where the stories originated. this filled in a few of the blanks and gave a dlvery different way of telling those stories. thanks!
