About this listen

Nacha is living a normal life in Old Town, Warsaw, when the Nazis invade Poland. After months of heavy shelling, her family believes things can't possibly get any worse. Then the city falls, and she and her family find themselves faced with a level of antisemitism they've never experienced before. They're locked into a ghetto, and she fears they'll never see freedom again. When the Nazis begin rounding up Jews, Janek, a Polish Catholic teenager, doesn’t let the warnings of executions for those caught helping Jewish people stop him. With his neighbors now living in the ghetto, he resolves to take them food and supplies. It isn’t long before he finds love in the dark shadows of the ghetto walls, and his own commitment to save his neighbors grows.

When ordinary people become heroes

Un unbelievable story about the human spirit on the face of the unfathomable. A story about the worst of humanity and the best of us as well. A story about survival against all odds and the love that sustains us and get us through everything.

Great story line and fantastic narrator

Wow. What a story. Hard to believe it is true. So may times they were almost caught and I do know it was GOD who saw this particular aryan family thru. Truly selfless. The mother and son were totally worthy to be honored as’’Righteous among the Nations” 40,years later. So many close calls I had to turn off my iPad and walk away. At times to settle down . A best seller in my opinion, not needing profanity or sex as fillers. These were gentiles. People, not Jews. They broke the nazi laws and helped Jews. Action punished by firing squad. The narrator was right on task. One of the best I’ve heard. Male and female different countries and continents. Looking for more audios by these two. You will not be sorry you used a credit.

Humanity and compassion wins over hate.

I liked the fact that despite the absence of the main protagonists , author was able to construct a narrative which was true to history . Her message of the power of humanity over hate and danger is wonderful.
