About this listen

Falling in love will pull you under.... Bill Kyser has a plan to take the sandy farms of his hometown and turn them into a world-class tourist destination - and become a billionaire in the process. Alexandra "Lexy" LaSalle has a plan to change her life by becoming a world-famous artist. Meg Weaver has a plan to hold on to Bill no matter what she has to do. Three friends, three dreams. One fatal decision will change all their lives forever.

In Dragonfly Bill Kyser gave Anna the three journals that held the story behind the powerful developer's seclusion and the damaged lives of his family members. Anna hopes to find a way for Julian to know the truth, but as she digs deeper into the tragic events of the past, she realizes silence could be the only option. Now she's in an alliance with the man she formerly feared. And if Julian finds out what she knows, she could lose for good the boy she's starting to love. A full-length new adult contemporary romance and family saga. Recommended for listeners 13+ due to mature themes and mild sexual content.

Good but emotionally rough, + historical mistakes

I wanted to love this book as I loved book 1. I detailed my petson issues with the book below but aside from those cons the pros outweigh all. This is an interesting book and essential to the ongoing series.

The storyline picks up where book 1 stopped but in a style and POV that is drastically different. The differences arent bad just unexpected as it is focused soley on explaining the mystery and not the life of Anna and her friends. Ergo, the book to move from YA premise to adult. Here's what to expect.

3 POVs are told from Jack & Lucy's mother and father (Meg and Bill) and Julian's mother (Alexandra) through their personal private journals. Each POV is told throughout the same timeline and read by Anna start to finish before moving on to the next person's journal. The story is interesting but predictable. The emotions are payable (for me, especially Meg's) and recount the life challenges and mistakes that entangle these 3 individuals future lives.

Unfortunately, the journals are not specifically dated. Each date entry is in Month, Day and Century only. There is no year or even decade indicated just 19-
I found this confusing and aside from the occasional mention of a specific time passing I felt lost to when the events had occurred. Also, the journals are written with detailed conversations...which of course is completely unrealistic. This technique made me forget that it was a reflection from an individual person. Because of that the 2nd and 3rd POVs were more just the rehashing of the events already explained not necessarily with much additional insight.

It doesn't help that I absolutely HATED Bill and Lexy after reading their journals. They are selfish despicable people. Meg was too but she didn't betray those she loved...in fact she was too honest. THAT could not he said for Bill and Lexy.
Finally, my biggest personal petpeeve is that there are many historical errors.<--- This is picky I know but each time I encountered one it jarred me out of the flow of the story.

Having said all that, the book is worthwhile and the narration terrific. As I mentioned necessary in continuing the plot and eventual resolution of the series.

Heartbreakingly Painful

As Anna reads all three journals, she learns what happened between Bill, Meg, and Alex.
This story was heartbreaking to listen to as three friends navigate life and their dreams. Will Anna keep the secrets she has learned?
This story is an emotional roller coaster and will leave you feeling as if life has been turned upside down.
I can not wait to start the next part in this series. I enjoyed listening to narrator Christy Romano too.

Great read

Love the book and glad to know what really happened. I’m just confused about something. I thought Anna was black. She is in the first cover but this cover and the cover for the next book, both have a girl that isn’t black.

Poor narrator

Narrator read slow and dragged our her words. Annoying to listen to and tapped out after about 5 minutes.
