About this listen

Sheriff Hayden Duke was born on the starship Pilgrim, like his father, and his father before him.

He’s got a long way to go before he can rest. But how can he when the entire world is under siege? By demonic aliens. By a brutal thug who calls himself King. By an unknown and powerful threat that may be responsible for the end of humankind.

The road may be long. The odds may be bad. The stakes may be high.

You can’t keep a good Sheriff down.

Love M. R. Forbes! The Forgotten series is excellent. A little sensational/superhero -ish, but if you’re willing to roll with it, the story is an endless ride of new challenges, great back story, and likable characters.

Narration is both excellent and awful. Unacceptable Volume management in an audio book. Throughout each book in the series I was constantly pausing to turn up or turn down the volume to manage the narrator’s voice. It didn’t matter if I was using head phones, in the car, or on my bedroom stereo... The narrator’s volume was all over the place and almost unmanageable.
Mr. Davis is a spectacular voice actor and provides great depth of character, BUT THIS IS AN AUDIO BOOK! I hate that he whispers, shouts, reads, talks, shouts again, whispers some more. Come on!!!! I don’t want to have to turn up the volume constantly to hear what your reading and then have my eardrums damaged by the sudden change in voice!

Amazing series, talented narrator, but with SERIOUS volume issues.

A satisfying ending to the trilogy as the sheriff is barely able to build some alliances and prevent more powerful forces from derailing his attempts to save his wife and the Pilgrim colony. Of course, much is revealed about what has been motivating the various competing groups that the sheriff has encountered, and what they plan to do next. This is basically everything you want from solid sci-fi - well-written and well-narrated.

Part Sci-fi thriller, part survival horror, part western. This trilogy was an amazing journey and the Sheriff Duke is now one of my favorite characters of all time

That last line... painful. In all seriousness a good end to a entertaining trilogy that had me guessing a time or two

I did notice that the entire series had a sizeable volume shift, introspective times were very quiet while battles were loud.
This made the battles exciting however having to adjust the volume to keep the reader from yelling in my ear get old fast

Good Ending

This series had many faults. It was categorized as Contemporary SciFi but there was very little science in it and what was had been superficially written. It would have been better labeled, Western: Post-Apocalypse

The explanation of starship left behind with entire crew of aviation and science personnel left blissfully unaware for hundreds of years wasn't believably explained.

The origin and purpose of the trife invasion was left unanswered. The overuse of the goofy 'Pozz' slang word, bewilderingly, the only new slang word, was grating.

The scientific pinning of the genetic modifications experiments to create goliaths and super warriors was explained as well as directions on a box of Shake 'n Bake.

The premise that a few good people could take on thousands of trife and hundreds of better armed bad guys over and over again was laughable.

As my headline notes, only humor could have saved this series.

Needed humor to ease the story incongruence
