Jason owned the field—a major player, the best of the best. Invincible…
Until he drove home with three other wide receivers. The semi came out of nowhere and in one minuscule flash, his dreams were destroyed. Now as the machines endlessly beep around his hospital bed, he doesn’t understand how he survived. And he’s not sure he wants to keep living. Except when he hears her voice—a voice like melted caramel swirled in molten chocolate. The only way he can meet her is to open his eyes. But he just can’t do that right now.
Raised in the system, Ellie plays the drums. Her sticks kept her out of juvie during high school—got her a scholarship, too. But now that she’s a student at Madison U, she’s as invisible as a clump of dirt beneath the grass on the football field. There’s only one person in school she talks to—and he’s in a coma. God save her if he ever wakes up.

I felt so bad for Ellie because I know what foster children go through. My parents were foster parents and I have heard stories about what some of the kids have had go go through before they got to us.
The narrators did a wonderful job with the story. Just the right amount of feelings that really made you empathize with Jason and Ellie.
Very good story

The narration of by Stella Hunter and Blake Lockheart was superb. They kept the individual people separate with different inflections and such. I loved the emotions that they put into their readings.
I was given a copy of this audiobook, and this is my unsolicited review.
4 1/2 stars. Wonderful characters, good narration.

It was definitely emotional for me.
I think I had tears in my eyes through most of the book because I felt Ellie’s pain and joy deeply.
A tribute to Ms. Jarecki’s incredible writing.
This story takes you into the heart and thought process, the self loathing and self doubt of a girl named Ellie who has been in the Foster system most of her life. It takes you on her journey of discovering that someone in this world will love her, quirks and all. Someone will stay. They will not abandon her. This discovery for Ellie makes her free to love, free to dream, free to lean on someone.
But most of all, we travel on Ellie’s journey as she realizes she can be these things to someone else. Jason is the one person she wants in her life, but she struggles to believe he not only can accept someone like her, but love her whole heartedly. This a very powerful love story.
I thought it was incredible.
A must have. I thought the narrating of Blake Lockheart was excellent.
I felt he could have narrated this book on his own. He did very well.
Outstanding
