About this listen

Since coming to Crossroads, Oklahoma, former outcast Aden Stone has been living the good life. Never mind that one of his best friends is a werewolf, his girlfriend is a vampire princess who hungers for his blood, and he's supposed to be crowned Vampire King - while still a human! Well, kind of.

With four - oops, three now - human souls living inside his head, Aden has always been "different" himself. These souls can time-travel, raise the dead, possess another's mind and, his least favorite these days, tell the future. The forecast for Aden? A knife through the heart - because a war is brewing between the creatures of the dark, and Aden is somehow at the center of it all. But he isn't about to lie down and accept his destiny without a fight. Not when his new friends have his back, not when Victoria has risked her own future to be with him, and not when he has a reason to live for the first time in his life.

Love it!

This is a great book. The nararator is wonderful, if you think it starts off slow, just give it a chance. I was very pleased overall and can't wait for another! If you like other Gena Showalter books, you will not be disappointed.

Needs a different narrator.

When I started this book, I was really hoping for a different narrator than Intertwined had. Her phrasing is strange and awkward and is distracting.

another amazing story

I loved this book. Gena always knows how to pull you into a world and make you get lost and this book was no different.

Mind Boggling!

Gena Showalter has yet to write a book that I didn't like, and this one held true to that. How any author's imagination can conjure up such amazing, deeply intriguing characters is beyond me---mind boggling to be exact. I must admit, however, that Initially the story was confusing for me; the many different characters introduced too haphazardly. And the narrator's voice grated my nerves. She sounded like a spoiled high school girl with an "I'm better than you are" attitude. She put too much feminine emotion into practically every word which did the male characters a true injustice, toning down their verocity and manliness (at least as much verocity and manliness you can expect from high school aged young men---boys??). Fortunately, there was enough going on with the constant twists and turns of the story to keep me captively engaged in spite of the narrator. I HAD TO KNOW HOW THINGS WERE GOING TO TURN OUT! The ending was not quite as I hoped because it left me still wondering how the heros and heroins of the story would ultimately fair. But to the author's credit, the ending piqued my curiousity enough to ensure I would purchase and read the next book. On another note, I found this book listed in the "paranormal romance" category, but for me it was a slam dunk for the paranormal and lacked substance for a romance rating (and dammit, at least a smidgent of sex would have been nice!). But all in all, the book still merits my 4-star rating.

Incomplete series

I really like the series. The first book was pretty good and it made you want to get the second book. and the second book kept you interested in till the 3rd book came along. But the problem that I'm having is I feel that I'm outgrowing this series before the fourth book is produced. That is the only problem when the next book in a series is not written. the last book came out in 2011 and by the time the next one comes out I fear I might have outgrown the series and the characters. I feel that the characters are getting younger while I'm getting older although they are still the same age. I hope that the next book comes out soon or at least in the next year

Terrible writing

Overwrought dialogue. Couldn't get through the first hour. The opening was confusing, but not compelling enough to make me want to stick with the story.

slow

Book seems very slow, I think it has more to with the narrator. I am contemplating not even finishing the book because of it, and that will be a first.

Awful!

What disappointed you about Unraveled?

Everything

What was most disappointing about Gena Showalter’s story?

All of the characters sounded like the same... a 14 year old Valley Girl

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I don't know, I couldn't get past the 7th chapter

Any additional comments?

Might be okay for a pre-teen. That's what I get for not previewing the audio and just went off the description. I've learned my lesson

What would have made Unraveled better?

Right off the bat you are bombarded with hordes of characters, creatures and scenarios. A character is given that three different people call her three different names, for example. If the characters and there roles were developed....... Then the pace slows and starts to give background at a good pace. The narrator was annoying. I think she was trying to sound young or something.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Didn't get there.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Annoying.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The premise had a great deal of potential. I like creatures and plots with more than one story line.
