About this listen

This groundbreaking multicultural anthology shares moving personal stories about the impacts of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

An estimated 5.7 million Americans are afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease, including 10 percent of those over 65, and it is the sixth leading cause of death. But its effects are more pervasive: For the nearly six million sufferers, there are more than 16 million family caregivers and many more family members. Alzheimer’s wreaks havoc not only on brain cells - it is a disease of the spirit and heart for not only those who suffer from it, but also for their families.

This groundbreaking anthology presents 40 narratives, both nonfiction and fiction, that together capture the impact and complexity of Alzheimer’s and other dementias on patients, as well as their caregivers and family. Deeply personal, recounting the wrenching course of a disease that kills a loved one twice - first they forget who they are, and then the body succumbs - these stories also show how witnessing the disease and caring for someone with it can be powerfully transformative, calling forth amazing strength and grace.

Heartbreaking stories and honest essays on Alzheim

I laughed and cried in listening to the book and each of the narrators brought so much love and honesty and compassion to their stories. I wonder if they were chosen because of their experience with loved ones with Alzheimer's and would like to ask the author.

Although it didn't really present any new information, just the outlet of having heartfelt personal experiences was good for anyone who has had Alzheimers touch their lives or their families. Thank you for putting together such a compelling group of stories, Ms. Golden, and thank you to all the narrators who made the stories their own and touched us listeners in ways you'll never know.

Down to earth Buddhism: the questions we all ask

This audiobook was just wonderful! From the forward by Annie Lennox to the conversation between a follower and the Buddha. She sounds like all of us searching for the way and the narrator they picked for Buddha's answer is excellent, too. If you want to find answers and your not into all the stoner sound of a lot of audiobook about Buddhism, this makes it real. Everything you want to know in the modern world and a quick biography of Buddha's life and teachings in ways you can understand and that are meaningful for today's world. The readers were perfect for this book and their sincereity and honesty came through.
