Publisher's summary

A woman with a murky past who kills herself - or was it murder? A spoiled kid awash in gambling debt who thinks he can beat the system. A lovely woman whose life is about to splinter into a thousand fragments. A professional shoplifting ring working for the Mob, racking up millions from stolen goods. A wandering husband, rich and ruthless. A dirty cop so entrenched on the force he is immune to exposure. A sinister gangster, conscienceless and brutal. A lonely widower mourning the death of his lover, desperate for answers, which may be worse than the pain of his loss. A private detective, Kinsey Millhone, whose 38th-birthday gift is a punch in the face that leaves her with two black eyes and a busted nose. And an elegant and powerful businessman whose dealings are definitely outside the law: The magus at the center of the web. V: Victim. Violence. Vengeance.

Critic reviews

"Sure to satisfy." (USA Today)

“The author has hit a high mark with her latest offering, a complex tale of love, betrayal, ambition, and, of course, murder…The only bad thing: There are just four letters left in the alphabet.” (The Associated Press)

“One of Kinsey Millhone’s best outings...must reading for Grafton fans.” (The Globe and Mail (Canada))

A great start, ok finish

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I really didn't care for the main character. She had a little too much of a hard edge and superior attitude.

Would you be willing to try another book from Sue Grafton? Why or why not?

I don't think I'd try another book with this same main character, but I'd try another. She did good writing several different story lines and bringing them together.

Did Judy Kaye do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, she used different tones of voice and accents. I liked Nora the most.

Do you think V Is for Vengeance needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No because I don't like the main character, the private investigator. I don't have any desire to hear how she sticks her nose into things and thinks she has all the answers. It's okay for her to break the law but not others...

Great

I am a true Sue Grafton/Judy Kaye fan! I hope Ms Grafton gets as much pleasure writing about Kinsey as we get listening to her "adventures". Am hoping the alphabet continues!! Ms Kaye puts so much life to Kinsey! The allready wonderful tale is only made better with her narration!

I enjoyed this title. First one of Sue Grafton's I've listened to, but I really enjoyed it. It was slow at first, but I love connecting the dots!!

Strange start!

But, don’t stop! Trust me, you won’t be sorry, not one bit. So many characters, all brought together in an amazing storyline. Narrator is excellent.

Nice to listen to another Sue Grafton/Judy Kaye

Would you listen to V Is for Vengeance again? Why?

I probably would, although I usually listen so intently on the first time around I usually don't listen again to the same story for awhile, but this was good enough to keep on hand.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

the plot seemed to keep growing and going in a different direction every time I thought I had it figured out.

What about Judy Kaye’s performance did you like?

I always enjoy how Kinsey is performed.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Another home run hit suspense, with our favorite private eye by Sue Grafton

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book and waiting for W is for ........?

V is for Viva Sue Grafton!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! Ms. Kaye has Kinsey down to a science. As always, the story is funny and suspenseful.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes.. you find yourself hoping, early on, that the "bad guy" has a happy ending!

What about Judy Kaye’s performance did you like?

She knows this series well. It's almost as if she is not 'reading'... just telling a good story!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The end... just the way I wanted it!

Narration too fast

What did you like best about V Is for Vengeance? What did you like least?

The story was good, different from the usual crime.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narration was a bit too fast - I had trouble keeping up with the story as it whizzed by.I tried the slower speed, but that was WAY TOO slow.
