When Obsession Becomes Desire....
Ellen Winthorp has no choice but to rely on the protection of Mischa Stepanov - the vicious mafia leader who captured and disfigured her. But the more she learns about him, the deeper she falls into a world of violence, deception, and intrigue where danger lurks around every corner.
As long as she plays by his rules, Mischa seems content to drip-feed her information about her family and the secrets shrouding her past.
But her innocent questions may lead to devastating answers....

This is dark, twisted and utterly fantastic! From the first page I was hooked and could not put this book down. Miscah and Ellen's story continues. I'm more intrigued by Mischa, he's brutal, cruel, violent, caring and protective. Elle is hurt, abused, but becoming stronger. Their relationship is messed up to say the least. The storyline is gripping and brilliantly constructed, the plot is well thought out and palpable, the characters flawed, damaged and well developed. There's nothing I didn't love about this book and I'm anxiously awaiting the next book!!
Caitlin really captured each character perfectly and kept me wanting more. I will definitely download and listen to more stories narrated by her!

Overall I would say this was a really good read. The performance / narrator, while not my favorite still did a really good job and the story was great with really good story line flow.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

I thought book one left me breathless. It did, but wow, book two took my breath away more than I ever imagined it could. Book two picks up where book one left off so you do need to read them in order.
Ellen and Mischa's "relationship" is more than messed up. Ellen endures even more trauma in book two, you wonder how she's managed to stay alive to this point. Mischa is just plain cruel, or is he? He physically and emotionally abuses Ellen. However, we are given glimpses into a man who may care more than he's comfortable with.
In real life, I'd never root for them to develop an actual relationship, no matter how gentle he can be at times. However, in my fantasy world, I'm cheering for them. The way Mischa takes care of Ellen after her altercation with Nicklaus, and his treatment of the young girl, makes it hard for me to completely hate him. I also get the sense Ellen feels more free to be her true self around him, or at least stand up for herself if nothing else. I also get the impression Mischa wants to be different with Ellen. He's just struggling with years of molding of his role and how he should act as leader of the mafiya.
The writing, once again, is excellent. I was glued to the story and didn't want to have to put it down. There were even more secrets revealed, as well as twists and turns. We don't know who to trust and it seems neither do Ellen or Mischa. I thought book one ended in a heck of a cliffhanger. That was nothing compared to the cliffhanger we are left with in book two. Book three can't be released fast enough. I have to know what happens next!!
This is only the second audiobook I've listened to that was narrated by Ms. Knight. The first was XV: Fifteen (book one in the series). Her narration of this storyline is amazing. She can make you believe the difference between female and male characters. She also does a really good job with the accents. But, most of all, she is perfect for Ellen. Her narration is exactly what I pictured Ellen would sound like when I was reading the book. There's an innocence, a vulnerability, and a resignation that this is just how life is for Ellen in the narrator's voice. Although Ellen can be self-assured at times, she has been so conditioned for so long to believe that her life will never change, and definitely not for the better. This definitely comes through when listening to the audiobook. I can't wait to listen to book three.
*I was provided a copy of this audiobook and voluntarily chose to leave a review. This is my honest review.*

Mischa Stepanov has taken the one thing that could break Robert, his wife. He can’t kill her like he thought but instead he will protect her even if it makes him look weak.
Ellen Winthrop has been pulled into a blood feud between the Winthrops and the Mafia that has been going on longer than she has been alive. Stuck between a man that saw her more as a trophy and man who is slowly building her into someone or something, she barely recognizes. With Robert she was meek and quiet but with Mischa she has a voice that is heard and a reason to speak. Mischa knows answers to the secrets that elude Ellen, but some things are better left long dead in the past. Mischa tells her that she is no longer his captive, but she will have to prove her loyalty. But at what price?
Out of all three audibles for the War of the Roses this one brought me to my figuratively knees while listening to it. The emotions that Caitlin Allgood Knight was able to narrate for both characters were almost hard to listen to. It might have been the shortest of the three, but it packed the most punch.
This book crushed me and then built me back up again to crush me yet again. Mischa is strong but at times he lets Ellen in to see that small part that still belongs to the boy that told her to get under the bed and just breath. He has saved her so many times physically as well as emotionally. He is slowly making her stronger while she is tearing down the walls that he has built around that heart that he thought was black. *sigh* With Mischa it’s almost as if he is daring you to get in his head and not giving a shit about what you find. Love me or hate me. It’s Ellen that is slowing it down because she is afraid of what she will find in him. She is using Robert to shield herself from Mischa because if she looks to deep, she may see a reflection of herself or what she might become. The sensations that Mischa can bring out in Ellen scares the hell out of her because she isn’t used to being touched with tender strokes but only with pain.
