About this listen

Two years after the initial invasion of Hayden's World, the newly reinforced Hayden Militia is in a state of stalemate with the remaining enemy forces, but neither side is content to leave things at that. The alien alliance has dispatched their varsity to clean up the resistance on Hayden while the USF has officially activated Task Force V, the latest and most advanced combat ships built by humans. In the end there are some things you decide in the skies, but some can be settled only in the mud.

Valkyrie Rising is the sequel to On Silver Wings and book two of Warrior's Wings.

Great Listen

Liked it as well as the first one. I even thinking about buying the next one instead of waiting on the next credit.

Now that's what I'm talking about

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

A really great read. Maybe not the greatest sci fi, but fast paced, engaging characters, and one of the few books that I couldn't fall asleep listening to.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters seemed true to life; like the people I met during my time in the USMC. Not a lot of whining, like in the Crimson Planet, and not a lot of repetition to fill out the time. And yes I like the main character, she's a very credible warrior.

Which scene was your favorite?

The battle at the end of the book. Even allowing for fighting against aliens and the hi-tech equipment the description of battle seemed very well thought out and quite believable.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Even better the second time!

Any additional comments?

Dina Perelman has really become one of my favorite readers. I can rely on her to make the words understandable, while still conveying drama. I am continually impressed at how well she handles both technical as well as combat descriptions. When her voice comes on I can just settle back for a comfortable ride. When I replay a section its not because I didn't understand what she read, but because I wanted to hear hear tell the story again. You go girl!.

Culture clash.

A good follow through from book one , bringing the alien rationale clearly to the front.
Dina Pearman once again does a superb job on the narrative. She breaths life into the story as she becomes the people in the story.
If you enjoy Science Fiction then this series is a must have.
Evan Currie great job.

"Great Listen"

Would you listen to Valkyrie Rising again? Why?

Yes. It's a Great Book

Who was your favorite character and why?

In all ways Aida, book 2 is much improved over Book 1. The author seemed to put extra effort into making her more human and less arrogant; all the while upgrading her battle capabilities significantly. She is now part of another spec ops insertion team on Hayden and up against a ruthless sentient enemy combat team. They are the elite of their federation.

Which character – as performed by Dina Pearlman – was your favorite?

Aida

Any additional comments?

I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

Valkyrie Rising does indeed rise to the occasion

What made the experience of listening to Valkyrie Rising the most enjoyable?

The growth of the main character is well done as well as the introduction of some new characters. This is done smoothly without forgetting the secondary characters that were introduced in On Silver Wings. I suppose what, to me, was most enjoyable was the flow of the story without losing the momentum of the tale as the world broadens and forms into a larger tale.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I simply love the main character, I love her strength and her willingness to learn, but I think that Evan Currie has done a fabulous job with all of the characters he has introduced into the wonderful world he has created.

Which character – as performed by Dina Pearlman – was your favorite?

Dina Pearlman has done a very good job with each of the characters she brings to life in this interesting tale. I'm partial to the main character but have to say she does well with them all. It makes it hard to pick favorites when each character is so well written and placed.

Any additional comments?

Over all Valkyrie Rising rises to the occasion and continues to keep the readers and listeners enthralled and waiting to see what the next episode will reveal. Well done to both, Evan Currie and Dina Pearlman.

However

Solid story. I would love to see a but more character back story/development. Mr Currie use the word "however" way too much. Weird to pick on this but it is very grating and clumsy in the audio book format.

Follow-on still strong and growing

Valkyrie Rising is the 2nd installment in Evan Currie's Silver Wings series. While Sargent Aida starts back on Earth, she gets a few upgrades as well as a promotion. With the alien war beginning to heat up, Earth is moving to a war footing, while trying to juggle several emerging fronts. At the same time, the alien Alliance has begun to take the growing problem on Hayden's world seriously and finally sends in their varsity squad. Aida returns and demonstrates again she's the one to get the party started. While they have much to be proud of, a longer story arc is clearly developing.

The sci-fi elements are largely focused on the alien side of the story. In fact, a considerable portion is related from the alien perspective through their lead operator of the squad trying to quell the Hayden problem. This allows for a bit more backstory on the composition of the alien alliance confirming much of Aida's initial suspicions. The battle scenes are a bit less asymmetrical this time out. At the same time, Currie anthropomorphizes the aliens with greedy, alien profit motives.

The narration is well rendered with a solid range of voices for both genders.

Strap in for some high Gs.

Top notch covert ops and space fleet action. I was caught blurting out several 'hell yeahs' during the pitched battles.

Another brilliant addition to the Silver Wings series!

We’re always happy to find another entry in one of Evan Currie’s series. This series is particularly enjoyable for me since the primary character is a female. That is a nice change of pace. While military SciFi has some women characters, they are seldom the lead. Nice to know there is parity in the future, if only the imagined future. In keeping with the female lead, the book also has a female narrator, Dina Perlman. This was an excellent choice. She is a terrifically exciting reader who makes marvelous choices in character voices, vocal expression, and pacing. Top notch! We’ll definitely be seeking out others she’s read"

Sergeant Sorilla Aida is back in this installment with her fascinating armor and weapons as well as some of her previous comrades. Knowing the characters in more depth enhances our enjoyment as the plot thickens. The ensuing encounters are riveting and great fun. The book concludes this excitement by setting us up for the prospect of even more thrilling and dangerous encounters in book three. Like a chain-smoker, we’ve become chain-readers of Currie. I downloaded the next book before we finished this one so we could go straight into that the moment we finished this one.
