About this listen

From the halls of Montezuma...

Former Marine Captain Alexander Hale only wanted a weekend out with some old buddies. He could have done without the gang war, the shootout, and...oh yeah, the alien abduction.

Now he's in the middle of something he doesn't understand, never asked for, and is having quite possibly the greatest time of his life. Semper Fi and which way are the shores of Tripoli anyway?

Thoroughly enjoyed it! Great storyline and lots of potential for a nice long series! As with all Evan Currie books, this one is well worth the read!

It's another hit!

Unlike most books with metahumans that sometimes take a comic step from reality. Evan takes a well thought out and unique method for gaining super powers. Alien probes are wandering the galaxy taking out organic life and enhanced the most violent humans it could find when it arrived and set them on a path of rampage.

And things happen from there, good plotting. With the author being Canadian, Iliked this line. "you know the worst thing about the Canadians?” Mickey asked. “What?” “No one ever suspects them,”

Takes a logical approach to super powers

I had to rewind and re-listen and try to commit names to memory when I started listening as too much was thrown at the reader too fast. The story was good and thus the 4-star rating. The narration was solid and smooth with no noticeable flubs. I liked the characters, but because it there were thrown at you fast and furious, it took away from enjoying the story. The story is interesting and I will pickup book 2 when it goes on sale. The slow build up of the super-powers leaves lots of room to grow and should make an exciting story and the mixture of gang members, military, and civilians should provide some tension in future books.

A bit overly-complicated

I really enjoyed it cool take on the origin of super powers being a plot to wipe out life in its entirely rather than normal super soldiers from an experiment

I like the unknown parts like who the aliens are really

You were really able to visualize the people in the story. You could empathize with them.

Good character creation

I've always been a fan of Evan Currie's books and this was no exception. It's all around a fun read

Semper FI

I, like another reviewer, enjoyed Evan Currie's Odyssey One and On Silver Wings and was initially intrigued with the sample introduction. However, it turned out that a lot of chapters were spent discussing the alien puppet master without really providing much detail regarding its alien overlord consortium. It repeatedly mentioned that they were out to remove any living life form in the galaxy without providing any descriptive backstory as to the reasons why. I did like the way the author used a unique twist on genome alteration with using the junk DNA to provide the super powers. However, while it was discussed in general terms, no evolving theories or concepts on the process with put forward.

The story itself came across as a mashup between Heros and Spy Kids but insufficient character building made both protagonists and antagonists fairly stereotypical and so they were mostly uninteresting.

Kevin T. Collins did a fine job in mimicking both genders along with adult and adolescent age groups but his tempo lacked a sense of trepidation.

Interesting premise lacked needed details

the story was pretty good but it took a while to get started and I wasn't quite sure where it was going to lead. I am intrigued enough now to pick up the next day or so and then I added to the collection.
