Publisher's summary
Mike Mulvaney, a scientific prodigy who spent four years as a Maine after his father was almost killed in 9/11, went for a hike in the Adirondacks. He unknowingly walked through a star gate or portal to another world.
The planet Cornu was settled by humans in the distance past who came through gates from Earth. There were changes to human genes that strongly influenced human society. More women than man dictated multiple wives. Low fertility and birthrate with low population growth limited large scale conflicts. Pheromones played an important part in picking mates and in libido. The technology was early 18th century, and progress was slow. Much of the progress came from the very rare person who came through the gates. While wars weren't waged due to population loss, bloody dynastic plots were hatched and waged. One particularly nasty and deadly one was conceived against the royal family of Nordia by a rival kingdom.
When he arrived, Mike was disoriented and worried about his sanity. Was this real or a delusion? He gathered himself and slowly set out to explore this new world and soon found himself hip deep in the plot.
Contains mature themes.

Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Life’s tough when you’re trapped in an eight-year-old body on another world. His name is Eight. Not really, but that’s what the System decided after a slip of the tongue. One moment, he was stepping out the office door on the way home, and the next waking up on a hillside below a town wall. Oh, and the gate guard drove him off, because he thought Eight was a monster. What’s a boy to do in a world full of magic and so many, many hungry creatures searching for their next meal? Well, there’s an old man inside that body, and he'll use everything he’s learned to survive.

A world on the precipice of the apocalypse. A secret forged in the flames of war. A chance to start over. For John Sutton, only one of those three things matters. Retired from a decade of brutal war, he wants nothing more than a quiet pastoral life while he does his best to stem the steady increase of his Doom Points before they hit 100, signaling the start of the end. When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

The West's own governments are giving up, have already lost, or are leading the charge to something else. This doesn't sit well with those who believe in liberty. This is the story of a people who have lost the political fight, they've lost the culture wars, they haven't seen a level playing field in a generation, and they are about to be made serfs. None of that matters. They're leaving....

It began with a quarrel over which newborn should be the baby Jesus in the town's Christmas pageant. Decades later, two scientists arrive to study small-town genetic patterns, only to run up against the invisible walls that split the leading citizens into two congregations that can only be joined by love and forgiveness - and maybe a little deception, because there might be some things people just don't need to know.

Hard to Tell
This Book has a few Bad points that completely detract from the good parts of this story. For instance our MC will not even go through the Gate till the last hour or so of this book.
I was constantly waiting for it to happen but there was so much non essential back story that I grew very frustrated. The most off-putting part was that 50% or more of that history was not even featuring our MC. It all appeared to be the set up for what our MC finds when he arrives in our fantasy world. And most of it was not action. If our Author spent more time describing the Acton sequences and the majestic wonders of his fantasy world and less time having long winded conversations with unimportant characters, I would give this book 5 stars.

Normally I don’t write reviews but
Normally I don’t write reviews and just rate the books I either enjoy or dislike; however, I want to encourage others to buy this book and the author to continue the series.
There is a slight downfall with the back story being very long, but from where the book starts and the MC comes into play needed quite a bit of explanation. It probably could have been shorter, but it really does help get you invested in the MC.
The narrator did a really good job and the point I took off is due to the fact I think that authors should look into duel narration. It adds allot to the books; however, I also believe that you should keep the same narrator throughout the series.
I enjoyed the military lingo; it was kind of a blast from the past being exmilitary myself. For those of you who don’t know the lingo most of it can pretty much be figured out, and the stuff that you can’t: that is why Alexa and Wiki exist!
I am waiting for the next book in the series!

Too much sex
This story could be 10x better if the author would cut out 80% of the description of sex, sex aids, and stories of sexual desire. If I was still a teenager I probably wouldn’t change a thing. Also, he gets into too many details about how an event is going to happen and what the characters are going to do. Then when it happens it’s redundant. Another thing was describing an event and then redescribing it from a different point of view. He needs help from a good editor.
Further, the narration needs a ton of work. The characters voices are very nasal. He would have been better not trying to alter his voice.
I did buy the sequel and am hoping it’s better; however, this is not a book I will read again.

Sex-Infused Sci-Fi Saga Written for Male Readers
This is an entertaining, sex heavy, sci-fi adventure written for men who like to escape to the realm of male fantasyland. There is little political correctness or concern about the sensitivities of female readers or for misandrist criticism.
Storyline:
This is first book of a multi-book saga. You need to commit to at least the first two books to get the minimal level of satisfaction from the read/listen. This book has parallel storylines of: 1) development of Mike Mulvaney as a man, sexual being, hunter, athlete, PhD scientist and Marine officer; and 2) geopolitical history and human biology on Cornu, a planet in the Perseus arm of the Milky Way which was populated with flora and fauna from Earth via a multidimensional vortex (Gate) starting around 2500 BCE. It is a world ripe for the introduction of an Earth-born hero through the Gate: Mike Mulvaney.
Criticism:
Characters are two-dimensional and psychologically flat. There is extensive repetition.
Narrator:
There are many diverse characters with often brief appearances in the book making this a difficult book to narrate. Once I got used to his style, I thought the narrator did a good job.

Extremely boring
Gate travel only happens in the last couple of chapters. 11.5 hours of charter building and it feels like a house made from cardboard. Its written in third person which couldn't have helped but this book just sucks. None of the chacters are interesting, they are all written like "he talked about something interesting" well what did he talk about that was interesting?!? out of 12 hours of listening to this I got that the mc was a op genius know it all, and that the women are all horney and feminist geniuses and the men like getting cucked. The end. p.s. the narrator sounds like a nasal lispy tranny most of the book.

story is all over the place
Is this a bunch on stories in 1? ok so its an alternate world where 911 happens and theirs some smart kid that's f*cking older students but also at the same time theirs medieval bandits and cowboy slavery? I just don't get it. Every other chapter has nothing to do with the last chapter. Overall good ideas but poor writing.
