About this listen

This audiobook set features the prequel short story Veiled Threats and the first book in the Charm Collector series, Diabolical Sword.

Veiled Threats: Camila Fletcher has made a career out of finding missing people. Despite being a full-blooded human, she's often contacted by members of the fae population hiding amongst mundanes. When a young fae girl asks for help finding her sister, Camila is thrust into an investigation that involves much more than one missing girl...

Diabolical Sword: When artifact collector, Harlow Fletcher, steals a rare dragon sword, she doesn't realize until it's too late that the sword has a mind - and agenda - of its own. The murder of an unknown man forces Harlow to go on the run with the diabolical sword in tow. In order for Harlow to clear her own name, she has to figure out the murder mystery in reverse - all before the authorities arrest her for a crime she didn't commit. Assuming the sword doesn't kill her first.

TW: Sound effects are scattered throughout and may be uncomfortable for listeners sensitive to abrupt sounds.

Couldn't stop listening!

This is a prequel (short story) and the first book in a great new series. The main character, Harlow Fletcher, is a charm collector in the city of Luma. The inhabitants of Luma include vampires, goblins, elves, drakens, werecats, sorcerers and a few humans, like Harlow. Harlow is doing her best to survive as a lowly human amongst creatures with all manner of magical powers. We quickly learn that her father is dead and her mother has disappeared. Harlow, essentially on her own, gets by "collecting" forbidden magical objects and selling them to collectors. She raids the homes and businesses of individuals who have been recently captured by the police for trading in these forbidden objects, trying to stay one step ahead of the police and their shape-shifting werecats. Following her heart-stopping exploits, along with her very unusual collection of friends and co-conspirators, makes for a highly entertaining listen.

The prequel is about Harlow's parents and provides the backstory for how Harlow ended up in the magical city of Luma, without any family, and doing what's she's doing to survive in this strange world. We know that her father was killed, but Harlow still doesn't know where her mother is, or if she is even still alive. I'm hoping that Harlow and her mother may find each other again in a future book in the series.

This is such a unique story, with great characters and a fast-moving story line. The narration is excellent. I am anxious for the next book in the series.

Entertaining story

Enjoyed the story, I will look for more books from the author. My only grievance is I wish the narrator was a black women like the main character of the story was. In my opinion somethings missed the mark because the narrator does not understand AA colloquialisms, and couldn't preform them. But with that said the author has a new fan.

not for me

The first story was ok but I couldn't get into the second story. I thought they would continue with the characters in the first story.
