Publisher's summary

Ballerina Dovey Beckham is a scholarship student at Briarwood, determined to prove that she's more than just a girl with the wrong pedigree. She does whatever it takes to succeed, even if that means surrendering her body - but she will never surrender her heart.

Until the day she meets him and he rips apart all her well-laid plans. Suddenly, the girl everyone thought was unbreakable might just shatter.

Cuba "Hollywood" Hudson is rich, spoiled, and a star football player. With his fast cars and superficial girlfriends, he lives the high-life, hiding his secrets from the world.

Until the day he meets her, and she offers him something he's never tasted: love.

But once-in-a-lifetime kind of love doesn't come easy. When trust crumbles and doubts creep in, both will have to decide to either love or let go forever.

Weird narration

The male narrator seemed to switch from talking right close to the mic to far away. I don't know if it was the narrator or the production of it. The female narration was fine.

I really did like this a bit more than the first in the series. This one can stand alone and just overlaps the first as far as characters. There is something this novel doesn't conclude with a different character but no true cliffhanger.

performing/ editing awful

The editing was awful, especially with the male voice. would completely change tone/ speed/ reflection in the middle of a sentence.

ok story line but a lot of it seems very far fetched.

I wanted it to hurry up and be done!

I listened to the first book in this series and like it, so I thought I’d follow up with this one. I really wanted to like it but just didn’t… Maybe to read it would’ve been better but to listen to it, I just wanted it to be over. I realize the characters were high school students so there’s the angsty drama but it just went on and on. I felt like there were too many sub plots instead of focusing on one. I’ve enjoyed other works by this author so I’ll give the next in the series a try and hope for the best!

Not for me

This story was not for me. Main male and support characters have sex with many people. Especially the H. Yeah he broke up with her but he did that so he can screw around with other people. The love between the MCs felt forced and the drama were senseless. This was supposed to be high school? Wow! Cannot recommend bc the H continue to sleep around and this right here is not love or romance even if they were young. This story was contradicting on cheating. And the author made it look like he didn’t cheat bc he broke up with the h. The h was definitely a doormat.

💜💜

My favorite of the series so far!! Dovey and Cuba are the best and sometimes the worst,..
They both have so much pain, disappointment and loss built up inside them that they fight the feelings and chemistry between them hard; but it wasn’t always like this; at one time they were happy. Their story gutted me and secured my position as a fan of this series!!

It’s okay

I liked this story better than book one. Although this one still felt fast and disjointed at times. I didn’t think I would get into Cubas story because in book one I found him to be a meh side character, but I liked it.

No need to go there

Let me start by saying I love Ms. Madden-Mills writing. Her tortured heroes and heroines are gritty and raw. In this series, however, they are too young and having the heroine sell her body in this story went to far especially when Dovey said she wasn’t forced and the hereto says she whored herself. It’s human trafficking when a girl faces ‘whoring’ herself or watching someone she loves get murdered. The writing is good, but the plot is lacking credibility. I wish I’d passed on this one. It’s not necessary for the next book in the series and I’m hoping it redeems her writing for me.

OHHH MYYYYY!!!!

This book tore me up. This was so crazy beautiful love story in so many ways. You have this beautiful rich boy with everything and the poor girl with nothing at all. But just like most books don't ever judge it by its cover.

Cuba is the sexy super hawt football star with everything laid out in his future all except a perfect family.

Dovey the super talented ballerina, beautiful with no idea she is, and the dirty grimy past that catches up with her.

This was an awesome book!!! I love these types of books. A little push and pull with some pain makes any book stick with me. We all have our demons, hard times and the little sweet times in between can be eaten up by the demons. This book shows that but in the end love will prevail!!!

These two are the epitome of an absolute car wreck but when you are done you will still want more and thats why I am gonna stop here and start the next one!!!

DNF

So disappointed that this turned out to be not the story the blurb promoted. This is about a high school girl pining for and being caring and loving while making goo goo eyes at a jerk who calls her trash and whore and who left her after their first night together to continue on his manwhore ways. Girl needs self-respect. Also the mob is here (headed by her dad) and she has to sell cocaine at school or else. WTF. I’m out.
