The Narrator ruined the story

What would have made Walking Among the Dead: True Stories from a Homicide Detective better?

A new narrator. Mike Vendetti's voice and pronunciation of the words really ruined the story.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I enjoyed the plot and stories that he wrote about when he was a homicide detective.

What didn’t you like about Mike Vendetti’s performance?

Really annoying voice and the way he read the story was really bad.

Staggering Among The Sentences

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I've never "read" a book narrated by Mike Vendetti so I don't know if it was his style, or the way the words were presented to him, but listening to this book was difficult. The abrupt...cadence...that ended before sentences did...and started just as...abruptly...became frustrating.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The descriptions of the Baltimore underbelly and its crime was interesting. The needlessly flowery descriptions made me want to fast forward to the good parts.

How could the performance have been better?

The performance was terrible. The only improvement would be to get another person to re-read this book.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was disappointed with this book. I've "read" many crime books and this was sub-par.

Narration is a distraction

This story was well written and maintained my interest. The narrator's voice was pleasant but he had a tendency to slur the pronunciation of multi-syllabic words often to the point where it took a few seconds to figure out what the word had been breaking the rhythm of the narration. Two stars for the performance was generous. I enjoyed the book's content.

Interesting perspective

Jumped around a lot and left a few cases unresolved. Ended abruptly. It’s nice to hear the detectives point of view on how they can know for certain who committed the murder but not have the evidence to go to trial.
