About this listen

Driven from their woodland home, Caesar and his apes are still recovering from the takeover by renegade ape Koba. Caesar is desperate to avoid war with the humans, but it is a faint hope, as his enemies are about to receive military reinforcements headed by the ruthless Colonel McCullough.

While trying to hold off McCullough's soldiers, Caesar sends his son Blue Eyes on a mission to the south to try to find a safe haven for the apes, despite rumors of terrible things happening there. Meanwhile supporters of Koba's revolt are spreading dissent among Caesar's ranks....

It's been a few years since War for the Planet of the Apes came out, and I can remember feeling that the movie was a bit to brutal for my liking. Time marches on and I'm feeling like I need to re examine the film. This story is an excellent addition. While I dropped listening to it for almost a year after finishing about half of it, I was surprised how quickly I could restart listening, and how good it was. The apes seem fully realized to me, and I may understand the humans more. I won't spoil a good story anymore than to say this story is compelling and nimble. The planet has rich territory to be explored. Bravo.

Not quite Watership Down, but very entertaining

The closer at mccullough and other apes characters was fantastically told. Great audiobook, would recommend.

Moving, captivating story

This was my very first POTA book and I adored it. It gives the reader (listener) a true and pure look into the apes' minds, and with a great narrator and story to boot. All in all, I'm definitely recommending it!

Better than I expected

A wonderful prequel for the movie explaining much of the intellectual thinking of both human and ape and how it drives them to make the choices that they do.

A vast amount of information is found in this prequel. It helps one to understand man’s thinking as well as Simeon thinking and how individual perceptions can account for sweeping decisions resulting in outcomes that could’ve been avoided because of misunderstanding.

If you’re interested in the background of planet of the apes and all the movies that have been produced since Charlton Heston made the first film, these books help to explain in greater detail how and why the changes took place.

It fits in wonderfully with each and every previous planet of the apes film. I highly recommend it.

Awesome!!!

Is middle of the road overall but narration was lower quality than the other planet of the apes books. The storyline is not bad but minimal character development. Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re working through the series

Not too bad
