Publisher's summary

Mark Hawkins, former park ranger and expert tracker, is out of his element, working onboard the Magellan, a research vessel studying the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. But his work is interrupted when, surrounded by 30 miles of refuse, the ship and its high-tech systems are plagued by a series of strange malfunctions and the crew is battered by a raging storm.

When the storm fades and the sun rises, the beaten crew awakens to find themselves anchored in the protective cove of a tropical island...and no one knows how they got there. Even worse, the ship has been sabotaged, two crewmen are dead, and a third is missing. Hawkins spots signs of the missing man onshore and leads a small team to bring him back. But they quickly discover evidence of a brutal history left behind by the island’s former occupants: Unit 731, Japan’s ruthless World War II human experimentation program. Mass graves and military fortifications dot the island, along with a decades-old laboratory housing the remains of hideous experiments.

As more crew members start to disappear, Hawkins realizes that they are not alone. In fact, he suspects they were brought to this strange and horrible island. The crew is taken one by one, and while Hawkins fights to save his friends, he learns the horrible truths: Island 731 was never decommissioned and the person taking his crewmates may not be a person at all - not anymore.

Bit creepy

This is a dark and strange tale. Enjoyable no doubt but... be warned its full of wierd monster types and there's lots of strange killing. I suppose it's a typical scary si-fi, with mad scientist, bio-logical experiments and genetic mutations all running wild. If that's what you like jump right in. i did and although at first i thought I'd bail out persistence paid off and eventually i was content that i had not wasted a credit...Not in a hurry to read more of Jeremy Robinson but will eventually.

Awesome

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are very well written and the creepies are great.

Which character – as performed by R. C. Bray – was your favorite?

Hawkins was performed brilliantly, as was Bray.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Absolutely, it made me laugh, gasp and occasionally freak out.

Any additional comments?

Island 731 was an interesting and fun story. The 'creepies' are fantastic and definitely leave an impression, long after hearing about them. R.C.Bray does a great job and I look forward to listening to more from him.

Nice fun read. Interesting story with lots of excitement. Inspired by true events (just like the Revenant)

On an island where everything is evil...

Too much goes right for the main cast of character as the story progresses. against all odds they survive. I liked the concept of the chimeras and the action is intense. not a bad book for audio. as usual, RC Bray is fantastic. loved the pulse sound.

A thrilling experience!

Though sometimes it seems that Hawkins is basically superman, it is quite the worthy listen! I would highly recommend this to anyone. R.C. Bray is worth listening to no matter what and his delivery of it all here is no exception. My only real issues are what I consider to be nitpicks. Our main man, Mark Hawkins, seems to be a cross between Indiana Jones and Superman. He can do it all. Which I guess makes sense. Somebody has to keep people alive on that island, right?

Wonderful follow through!

At first I was skeptical, it seemed like a good premise when I read the summary. It turned out being very good, in my own opinion. If you enjoy hard science fiction then you will definitely enjoy this novel.
Can’t wait to get into the rest of the series.

Excellent!

While the story was fairly creative for me it was the narration that truly brought it to life! Thank you for another great story to get lost in. :-)
