About this listen

R is a zombie. He has no name, no memories, and no pulse, but he has dreams. He is a little different from his fellow Dead. Amongst the ruins of an abandoned city, R meets a girl. Her name is Julie, and she is the opposite of everything he knows - warm and bright and very much alive, she is a blast of colour in a dreary grey landscape.

For reasons he can't understand, R chooses to save Julie instead of eating her, and a tense yet strangely tender relationship begins. This has never happened before. It breaks the rules and defies logic, but R is no longer content with life in the grave. He wants to breathe again, he wants to live, and Julie wants to help him. But their grim, rotting world won't be changed without a fight....

Adorable and entertaining

Would you listen to Warm Bodies again? Why?

Not sure. I mean the story is nice, the dialogue is funny but things went a bit slow so probably not really.

Who was your favorite character and why?

R was my absolute fave, obviously. His mind and inner dialogues are really funny and he's just a nice, warming character. His best friend is also really funny, whenever he was present things were fun.

Any additional comments?

First of I'd like to say that the story itself is really cute, it's nice and it's thoughtful. It is kind of weird how you're reading about how the humans are pretty much doomed and everyone is either dead or a zombie yet it continues to be a light story. It's a very cute story really but it's lacking something towards the end, I didn't even realize it ended and I just sat for more, feeling like something was missing that didn't make the story THAT good.

However the characters are nice and the narrating was really what caught me. Kevin Kenerly has an extremely nice and relaxing voice and he's very good at doing zombie noises and sounding like other characters. I hope to find more books narrated by him.

Slaughter never sounded so sweet

If you could sum up Warm Bodies in three words, what would they be?

Unexpected, engaging, gruesome

What was one of the most memorable moments of Warm Bodies?

Spoiler alert* when Julie and R are talking in the house after they escaped the airport, he admitted that he was the one that killed her boyfriend and she forgave him. You see in this scene that they have a real connection that is very deep for only knowing each other for a short time. You know what they have is special.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Kenerly – was your favorite?

Definitely R, he has a very soothing and rich voice, but he can still do female voices really well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It sure was, it was so hard to turn off when life gets in the way.

Any additional comments?

Although it is a zombie story, it really is a story of redemption. It's like life became so taken for granted and driven by greed and consumerism that it caused the soul to die. Then humanity had to learn to live again.

Absolutely wonderful.

This book is a great heart warming tale of zombies falling out of death and into life and love. I needed this book after reading a series of long complex and enjoyably brain draining books. A nice and simple but none the less wonderful read.

Loved the story! A little different, but funny and romantic in its own way. Will definately listen to the sequel.
