About this listen

The must-listen prequel to the "strange and unexpected" (Audrey Niffenegger) and "highly original" (Seattle Times) zombie love story Warm Bodies - the New York Times best seller and inspiration for the hit film - from the critically acclaimed author whose clever debut turned the classic horror story on its head.

The end of the world didn't happen overnight. After years of war, societal breakdown, freak storms, and rising tides, humanity already hovered near the edge. Then came the most unexpected threat of all: the world's corpses rising up to deliver the final blow.

Born into this bleak and bloody landscape, 12-year-old Julie struggles to hold on to hope as she and her parents drive across the wastelands of America on a nightmarish road trip in search of a new home.

Hungry, lost, and terrified, 16-year-old Nora finds herself her brother's sole guardian after her parents abandon them in the not-quite-empty ruins of Seattle.

And in the darkness of a forest, a dead man opens his eyes. Who is he? What is he? With no clues beyond a red tie and the letter R, he must unravel the grim mystery of his existence - right after he learns how to think, how to walk, and how to satisfy the monster howling in his belly....

A short story that really grabbed me

So like many book, this one had 3 main characters doing things at the same time, that ended up meeting up later. This surprised me as it is a short story and I expected it to have to focus on just one character. While the book splits its time between 3 characters, it does a really good job of making me want to hear what happens next and building suspense as it switches to a new story line. Overall, this book really surprised me with how good it was as a short story, but it felt like a full novel. Good emotional build up, a dash of world building without trying to explain what or why, and enough mystery in that why that makes me want to keep listening to the series. Great story.

I wish it was longer!

What an interesting and new take on Zombie lore. Seeing the world from the infected and their inner struggle to remain human. Their confusion on their own changes to their bodies and understanding their new purpose. Zombies that can think and strategize. Really enjoyed this and look forward to reading/listening to the whole series.

Sad But Nicely Written

I recommend this to anyone who likes Warm Bodies. It gives us a look at what it's like trying to survive from 3 different perspectives. 2 girls who feel loss in one way or another, and feeling the emotional and psychological effects. 1 man who doesn't understand what's happening to him.

Prequel to Warm Bodies (novel & movie)

"Warm Bodies" is the only zombie movie I ever liked. I have watched for this prequel story since seeing that movie about 2 years ago. It was definitely worth the wait! I think I will listen to the novel "Warm Bodies" to note any differences from the excellent movie. I sincerely hope the author will write a sequel to "Warm Bodies" and even a prequel to "The New Hunger". There are more questions I want answered . . . .

Scary and Heart Wrenching

Fans of Warm Bodies will love this as it gives the back story of several prominent characters with depth of fear, grief and unrelenting hope. The Walking Dead that includes a point of view never done before: The Zombies. Brilliantly written and thought provokingly entertaining.

She Made My Heart Race

the most memorable moment, was there at the very end, when the reader describes what's happening. the tone of her voice mix with the words that describes the scene awfully well. My heart leap, and sank. the reading was done so well it was as if I can see everything being described as told during the intense moments of the story

The New Hunger

It was ok. I just finished Warm Bodies and loved it so I thought I would like this, but it can't compare to Warm Bodies for obvious reasons. It was nice to know what brought the characters to the point where we first found them in Warm Bodies, but overall I feel this mini novel was unnecessary.

Good Background

I can't say it was totally necessary to have this and still enjoy the first book. But if you loved Warm Bodies as much as I did then you like this. Narration was very good as well.

It’s a great starter to the story but fo not pay a full credit for this. It’s not worth $16.

Not worth more than $1.00 or so

The story is a cute prelude to the novel, Warm Bodies. It is NOT a novella. Nothing basically happens. Since it's basically just a chapter that could have been easily added as a prologue to Warm Bodies, it goes nowhere; it has no end. CUTE, I will admit. But not a real "story." Get it only if you can get it for free.
