About this listen

A beach execution. A devastating hurricane. Can Maui's best PI solve the case without his family members becoming the prime suspects?

Edgar Allan “Poe” Rutherford is used to weathering difficult cases. And since one of the victims is his sister-in-law’s abusive ex, Poe hopes nobody looks too hard at his own compelling motive.

Ignoring the sound advice to keep his nose out, Poe spars with the island’s newest police detective who seems to have her own hidden motivations, especially when she asks Poe to help with another case.

Poe has never taken on two murder investigations at once. But as he gets closer to the truth, will he like the answers he finds?

Not going to recommend this crappy story. Cliches at every turn, one sorry piece of writing.

Takes a serious subject and exploits it.

This is the 9th book in the Murder on Maui series.

The hurricane doesn’t feature prominently in the tale other than to place all the regulars at specific locals. ( I had been hoping for it to be Christy-like and a key & continuing feature in the story. )

Poe’s sister in law, Honi, dates an abusive man. Poe’s friend & co-bar owner, Foxx dates an obnoxious gold-digger. To Poe’s chagrin his mother-in-law, Ms Hu, is once again involved. Now complicate all this with repairing from the hurricane and throw in a couple dead bodies....

Narration, excellent as always.

Excellent Mystery

When this hurricane comes to the Maui, it's a double dose of disaster for Poe and Family. Alana, Poe's wife, also has challenges with a new coworker/rival who immediately enlists Poe's help in solving a murder case. Then Alana's sister's boyfriend turns up shot to death. So, 2 separate murders, but are they related? No spoilers here and you'll just have to enjoy another read/listen in this great series to find out!
