About this listen

Based on his popular blog and Ancient Faith Radio podcast, Orthodixie, Father Joseph Huneycutt presents a humorous look at the pluses, minuses, joys, pitfalls, and struggles of perpetual conversion within an Orthodox Christian worldview. Within this audiobook, you'll find all those familiar characters you've encountered in exploring American Orthodoxy - but with a hilarious twist: the Orthodox Christian anarchist, the Orthodox white boy, and that incomparable superhero, Ortho-Man. You'll be introduced to the lighter side of fasting, theosis, living a holy life in a secular world, and the struggle to understand those on the other side of the cradle/convert divide. For those days when acquiring the mind of Christ seems impossibly serious and, well, just plain impossible, a quick dip into We Came, We Saw, We Converted will restore your sense of humor and help you get up and try again.

the best read audio book I've ever heard on all of

The performance of this book was just beautiful. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'm not orthodox, but father Honeycutt made me feel welcome as a reader nonetheless

It's humorous, but not for everyone

I loved it. It's very creative and read beautifully, but only Orthodox 'insiders' will get the humor.

Highly recommended; author is a wonderful narrator

Caveat: I am not an audiobook person. When the opportunity arose to listen to this book in exchange for my honest review, I decided to go for it because it sounded like an "easy" listen. My attention span isn't great, and I'm definitely a visual/physical learner. I tend to listen to podcasts (and audiobooks) only when I'm driving or doing chores I don't have to think about much.

The first thing that struck me was that there was a professional narrator. Or at least I thought there was; I didn't read the blurb on Audible. I came to find out it's the author! Fr. Huneycutt is incredibly talented! He also is very funny. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to his book. It is based on his blog and Ancient Faith Radio podcast, Orthodixie, which I had never read or listened to. Despite the humor of the stories, there are some very good lessons to be had. Dare I call it "Chicken Soup for the Orthodox Soul"? (I haven't read many Chicken Soup books and it was many years ago, so please take that with a grain of salt, and don't hold it against the book!)

As a recent convert (chrismated last year), I very much enjoyed listening to the audiobook. Like another reviewer, I must admit I was expecting fairly straightforward convert stories, but what I got was much more fanciful but nonetheless very accurate. As a lot of humor is, it can be very pointed and perhaps uncomfortable for some people. I still recommend it. The narration is perfect, very lively!

A light hearted look into American Orthodoxy.

Fr. Joseph lightens the mood and addresses the joys and pitfalls of the orthodox church as it exists in the United States. Full of entertaining tangents, and comically expressed ideas. Super fun digressions. But stick around. You will soon find that you’ve been roped into some important thoughts. You might learn some lessons you wouldn’t easily pick up elsewhere. I think this is one case where the audio book read by the author is one of the best ways to consume the book. Father Joseph is a very good storyteller. I hope to see more titles like this in the future.
