Publisher's summary

A grumpy cyborg weapons master collides with a feisty mechanic from Earth who turns his ordered existence upside down.

Abducted from her exploration ship and enslaved on a desert world, mechanic Bellamy Walsh has fought for her survival. She’s had to fight for everything in her life, and she doesn’t ever expect things to be easy. After being rescued by the tough, deadly cyborgs of the House of Rone, she is shocked to find herself drawn to a grumpy beast of a cyborg. A genius weapons master who prefers his solitude. A man with scars of his own. A man whose brawny arms are the only thing that chase away Bellamy’s nightmares.

Maxon Shaye likes to be left alone to work. He doesn’t mind his fellow cyborg brethren, but he finds people annoying and chaotic. He’s disconcerted by his growing need to keep Bellamy Walsh safe, and thinks she’s irritating and brash. The woman keeps invading his workshop, getting in his space, and...the even more infuriating thing is that he’s actually starting to like her there. What he doesn’t like is her burning need to throw herself back into danger.

Bellamy is determined to help bring down her captors - the metal-scavenging Edull and their deadly desert battle arena - and that makes her a target. She knows too much, and the Edull will stop at nothing to silence her. Maxon will do anything to keep her safe, even if that means threatening the growing bond between them. But in order to destroy the Edull’s arena once and for all, Maxon and Bellamy will put everything on the line - their desire, their love, their lives.

Ended with a crackle

If this is the last book of the series it didn’t end with a boom but a crackle. The narrator does a good job but seems overly dramatic in some of her narration. Will see what the King series is all about.

Maxon!

Weapons master Maxon is distracted by human abductee Bellamy because of her courage, spirit, and her fiery red hair and prescribing green eyes. Getting her away from the Edull, then learning of the additional horrors of the battle arena and all the continued attempts on Bellamy's life have kept Maxon on edge.

Love the dynamic and the story is so well developed and full of heart.

A thrilling story!

This is a fantastic story! Bellamy has been held as a prisoner by the Edull (a slaver-race) for a long time. She was almost freed a short time earlier, but they recaptured her. Maxon fought by her side on that day, and watched her get recaptured. He has been worried about her ever since, and is persistent in trying to find her again. The House of Rone has finally gotten some new information and think they may know where she is, so they mount a rescue attempt and finally succeed. Maxon is the Weapons Master for the House of Rone, and is gruff and refuses to tolerate fools. He’d rather be inventing a new weapon. Bellamy isn’t bothered by his gruff attitude, and Maxon doesn’t treat her like she’s fragile, and they both appreciate those qualities in the other, especially after the things each has suffered at the hands of others.

This story is difficult to pause once you start listening. It has a lot of action, some tough situations, a few near-death experiences, some kidnapping, lots of escaping prisoners, and some death and destruction—all the things one expects in an Anna Hackett story set in the world of Carthago. There is a lot of tension, and the pace is rapid, so consider yourself warned. It’s a fast listen of a few hours, so leave some time free to finish this story in one sitting. This is the final book/audiobook in the House of Rone series, but there may be more stories from this author set in the far reaches of outer space... This reader can hardly wait!

Love the Galactic Gladiators and associated series…more?

I really enjoyed the Galactic Gladiators Series…both House of Galen and House of Rone! I hope there will be more spin off series (aside from Galactic Kings)…Maybe House of Loden maybe?

Good story but

BOOK REVIEW.......
Great story and characters. I recommend it

NARRATOR REVIEW......
The narrator seemed off for this one. I wasn't impressed with the tone of the reading. The narrator sounded bored and left the characters sounding lifeless. So over all I enjoyed the reading of the ebook more then listening to this book.
