About this listen

It's a truth often acknowledged that when a Jane Austen fan girl ends up living next door to a cynical but handsome crime writer, romantic sparks will fly!

When Maddy Shaw is told her Dear Jane column has been cancelled she has no choice but to look outside of London’s rental market. That is until she’s left an idyllic country home by the black sheep of the family, long-not-so-lost Cousin Nigel.

But of course there’s a stipulation… and not only is Maddy made chair of the committee for the annual village literary festival, she also has to put up with bestselling crime author –and romance sceptic – Cameron Massey as her new neighbour.

When Maddy challenges Cameron to write romantic fiction, which he claims is so easy to do, sparks fly both on and off the page…

‘Sparkling romance, secrets from the past…Witty and romantic, I couldn’t stop myself from turning the pages’ Alison Sherlock, bestselling author of The Village of Lost and Found

‘Witty, sharp and beautifully observed – I feel sure Jane would approve’ Julie Caplin

I absolutely adored this book when I was part of last year's Austenprose https://austenprose.com/ Book Tour. Rereading for 12 Months of Jane Book Club. I have a print copy on my Forever Shelf but this time I decided to listen to audiobook. Great narration! Just as delightful on a second read.

It's every thing I want in Austenesque. Jane Austen quotes at beginning of each chapter, country village setting, and enjoyed the mystery aspect of the story. I particularly like while there were nods to Pride and Prejudice, it wasn't a retelling.

Pride and Prejudice, I think is the hardest Jane Austen to modernize. Nobody's going to starve in the hedgerows these days because they didn't get married.

Everything I want in Austenesque!

I’m a modern woman living in a modern world but my heart and mind belong (even if my people were in utter turmoil) with Jane Austen’s Victorian World. This book captured so much of that essence but with the modern day feel I can assuredly relate too. I love the MCs and their story. This book held my attention from start to HEA finish! Well done!

Jane Austen Would Approve!

Liked the pace and characters. I liked the easy going story with a Jane Austen twist.
