Publisher's summary

A month after an EMP obliterates the power grid, a family from South Dakota is pushed to the edge to survive.

After a harrowing journey home, the worst is not over. When Tommy Sheridan learns about the death of an old flame, he can’t believe the United States Patriots are responsible. Offering to investigate, John warns him to leave it be. But walking away is hard for a gambling man.

An act of kindness sees John and Laura take supplies to Leon and his daughter near the town of Lead, but when a threat from Leon’s past returns, they soon find themselves locked in a vicious fight with only their wits and each other to survive.

Meanwhile, Elijah’s secret will have deadly consequences that will affect Scout and Charlie forever.

When Blood Lies is the fourth book in the After It Turns Dark series. This high-octane, post-apocalyptic thriller with flawed characters explores the world after an electromagnetic pulse knocks out power when society needs it the most. No lights. No phones. No transportation. This captivating family saga reveals what desperate people could be driven to do to survive at the worst time.

Fun, action-packed read...

This was an interesting read—I do feel like I was maybe dropped into the middle of an ongoing/established plot, but I could figure out what was going on soon enough and there’s so much action, strife, betrayal, etc. that I was hooked early in.

It packs all sorts of danger, trauma depicted in various forms, corruption, greed, and people at their absolute worst … and their best. Probably did a pretty good job of depicting some of what would indeed go on post an EMP, at least kept it very plausible.

Overall 4 stars.

Audible:
Well done, smooth, seamless production and a decent voice, though it was a bit robotic.

Harsh Reality

This book takes a look into the depravity of people when society collapses. It goes far enough to make it an uncomfortable read possibly for some people. This story was written well but will not be a repeat listen for me.

When Blood Lies

This was a fairly solid addition to the series. It did seem to stagnate a bit as there wasn’t as clear a goal as in the previous books. Nevertheless, there were interesting developments in several of the various storylines that left me curious enough to wish to continue.
I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Good but not

Overall, I like all 4 books, However the ending was poor. Jack Hunt is a good writer, but the ending could have been better.

The Sheridans Are Separated Again

I’ve listened to nearly all of Jack Hunt’s books, and I’ve not encountered one with such a clunky deus-ex-machina as this one. The unlikely scenario involving Leon's family seems to be added solely to keep John and Laura away from the cabin long enough for Elijah and Charlie to get into their own horrifying situation. It stretched my suspension of disbelief almost to the snapping point.

Other than that plot point, I enjoyed the rest of the story. Hunt delivered plenty of action and the characters represented all aspects of the good-bad spectrum. Cliffhanger endings tend to get me riled up, but i admit that this one left me more intrigued than frustrated. Looking forward to Book 5.

Miles Meili is among my favorite narrators. I love his delivery style and distinct character voices.

Sloppy Ending

It appears to me the writer started another book while trying to button this one up. The ending was poor at best.

Hopefully he picked up a few lessons and can be a better writer in the future to get those who are actually readers involved.

This one is all right

This one starts to pull threads together then starts fraying back apart again in terms of a storyline. Not the best in this series

Author really dropped the ball on this series. Completely unlistenable dribble - save your money, wish I could return this book.

Lots of inconsistencies

Glocks become Sig Sauers, DIA agent AND militia guys with the same name, Colt Peacemaker revolvers with "swing out cylinders", inane plot lines.

I listened to the whole series and though the author broke it into 4 parts to sell more books. It worked. The story was barely entertaining.

Go find something else. You'll be better off.
