About this listen

Mankind has suffered five mass extinction events; the sixth will be our final.

Days away from a catastrophic event that will end the world, five strangers find themselves stranded in the suicide capital of America dealing with the difficulties, regrets, and choices in their lives while trying to survive. Among the group is a talented performer, a petty thief, a gambler, a lady of the night, and a hard working cab driver.

With the clock ticking down and a sliver of hope found in a text message, their only hope is to get out of the city and embark on a dangerous journey across the country together.

Final Impact is a story of survival, friendship, and redemption in the face of impending doom.

Fun survival tale.

Final Impact is an apocalyptic survival tale. It follows the tropes of many books in the genre, detailing the events of a diverse group of survivors forced to work together to survive. However, unlike many books in the genre, which often times have EMP events (whether man caused or an extreme solar event) the reason the world is in peril is a mass asteroid. Yes we've seen this before in many films (Deep Impact/ Armageddon) but I can't say I've read many books with the asteroid focus. The story starts a short time after several smaller asteroids impact the country and focuses on a small diverse group of survivors attempting to get from Vegas to Florida, where a chance at salvation awaits. It's a pretty decent story, though not without some flaws, and entertained me from start to finish. I'd actually give it a 3.5 if Audible allowed half stars, but since I thought it was better than merely average I had to round up. This is the first time I've read/listened to a book by Jack Hunt, but I've looked at his catalog on Amazon and can already tell I'll be checking out some of his other work.

The book is narrated by Kevin Pierce, and as always he does a fantastic job. I so identify his voice with survival fiction that even when I am reading a survival book on my kindle, it's his voice I hear in my head.

Death by Asteroid with no Warning!

Final Impact: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller by Jack Hunt and narrated by Kevin Pierce takes place during the last 72 hours of life as we know it on planet Earth. The story starts with all the main characters being trapped in the Luxor in Las Vegas. A personal Nightmare as I stayed there one night on the 14th floor. I could completely visualize what the characters had to go through.

Mr. Hunt has crafted a diverse group of characters are Felicity (Escort,), Emir (Cab Driver), Dexter (Thief), Ben (Gambler), and Zeke (Featured Stage Magician). They are all more and less than they appear during this disaster, an earthquake caused by pieces of the first meteors hitting all around the world. They need to get out of Las Vegas and to Florida to escape earth with all the fat cats and the families from the District of Criminals who only found out in time because of Felicity's father a private astronomer at a college studying NEO (Near Earth Objects)

The book really held my attention and I became invested in about half of the character and wanted the others half to be left behind or swallowed up in a crevasse or creased by rubble they were that annoying. I am not sure if that was the authors intent but the fact it had me thinking of ways that they would leave the group held my attention closely to the story so I would not miss when one of the pain in the neck people were removed from the storyline. The story had a smooth flow of just ordinary people surviving a horrible event.

The narration by Kevin Pierce was just awesome. When it comes to the Post Apocalyptic genre he is the go-to vocal talent. Mr. Pierce is able to emote the feelings of the characters in these horrific situations he has this perfect voice for the genre. He can quickly get you invested in the story and the characters. The audience is along for the journey with characters and most loving every minute of it. The production quality of this audiobook is also topnotch. I heard no problems with it all. I recommend giving this title a listen if you are a fan of Kevin Pierce, Survival Fiction, or Post Apocalyptic Fiction.

A good post apocalypse tale

A great post apocalyptic story narrated well by Kevin Pierce. The concept is nothing new, but this one was well executed. I'd be interested in more from this author/narrator duo.

Nice apocalyptic story!

Extinction event meteor strands several strangers in Vegas. They soon become friends in an effort to get to Florida to a government facility where one characters father waits with a ship and a select few “useful” members of society who are going to wait out the destruction in space until the Earth is habitable again. Full of drama and adventure, this story is a great tale. The narrator does a great job as well. I received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Fun read, an afterwards story would be interesting

This was a real fun listen! It's a bit on the shorter side but sometimes that's a plus. The story does have a satisfying conclusion (if maybe a bit far-fetched, it's more enjoyable to if you just don't think too deeply about it).

I felt like some of the character interaction was a bit off and it was a bit hard to believe that with impending disaster the father would not take more drastic measures to locate his daughter sooner (though maybe that was part of his character flaw? Now that I think about it, perhaps!). Minor gripes aside, I really enjoyed listening to this book and feel like it would be an extremely interesting story to follow-up on.

Narration by Kevin Pierce was excellent and a pleasant listen. I swear I've listened to other books narrated by him (couldn't find any that were in my library) but maybe he just has one of those voices!

I would definitely recommend this for a casual listen and am definitely going to be keeping an eye out for more works by Jack Hunt and narrations by Kevin Pierce.

GREAT POST APOC BOOK - EASY TO GET INTO

I LIKED THIS BOOK, THE NARRATOR "KEVIN PRICE" DOES QUITE A FEW POST APOCALYPTIC BOOKS AND HE REALLY DOES A GREAT JOB. IT'S EASY TO FOLLOW AND THE STORY LINE IS FAST PACED SO BY THE TIME I FINISHED THE BOOK I WAS A LITTLE SURPRISED THAT IT HAD ENDED. THE CHARACTERS IN THE NOVEL ARE EASILY RELATE-ABLE AND GENUINELY LIKED THE STORY.

IF I HAD ANYTHING TO SAY THAT WASN'T POSITIVE IT WAS IN THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY ABOUT THEM BEING IN THE INCLINATOR. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT THIS WAS AND HAD TO STOP THE STORY SO I COULD LOOK UP WHAT IT WAS SO I COULD GRASP THE PICTURE IN MY HEAD BEFORE PROCEEDING ON. TO ME THIS ISN'T NEGATIVE AS I LEARNED SOMETHING NEW :)

Great action

Pretty good story but not a whole lot of new ideas. The story is more character driven than most books like this and that is always good.
It was nice to see people from such different backgrounds come together and bond. I’d be interested in a sequel but it would take place in space unless you jump forward in time.

I always love books by Jack Hunt.

Kevin Pierce did an amazing job as always. I could listen to him forever.

Decent

It was not a bad post apoplectic book about an asteroid causing havoc on earth and going to make direct hit. I believe a movie as already made similar to this. I did like all of the character Felicity, Ben, Zeke, and Aamir and loved the narration. My favorite were how they got out of the elevator shaft and hotel and near the ending. Loved this book.

I'm a hard sell on a lot of the audio books I've purchased but I immediately found myself drawn into Final Impact and had to ration my listening time so as not to finish it in one sitting. The characters were developed in a manner that made them seem like real people. And the choice to use Kevin Pierce... well, it's rare to find an audio book narrated by Kevin Pierce that's bad but this one was a perfect read for him.
