About this listen

The two women found dead in their beds had been executed. There was no robbery, no sexual motivation, and the satanic writings and red candles found at the scene had been staged to throw investigators off track. The killer, or killers, just wanted the women dead! One of them, Betty Lou Gray, had been the primary target, while the other, a close friend, was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

From the beginning, the prime suspect was Betty Lou's husband Bill. A dominating and controlling husband, he had kept his wife penniless and almost in bondage for 28 years until, finally, she'd had enough and asked for a divorce. The obvious motivation was money, a $250,000 life insurance policy, and with his wife dead, there would be no splitting of assets in a divorce settlement. If he could succeed in hiding the insurance money and the pawnshop assets from his children, Bill Gray could become a rich man.

It seemed an open and shut case, but it was not to be. In this true story, Dixie Murphy follows a trail of suspicion and intrigue, and reveals the virtually unprecedented means used to finally bring a murderer to justice.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would remove half of the redundant material and then I would cut out anther 25 % percent of the nonsense and call the book decent. It is beyond repetitive which is not fun when it the characters are so one dimensional.

Would you recommend When Greed Turns Deadly to your friends? Why or why not?

Nope cannot say I would that would not be nice of me.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Yes I absolutely think the narrator could have been a better narrator.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I would not go anywhere to see this book if it were made into a movie; however I could stand a thirty minute forensic file on the matter.

Any additional comments?

I was shocked at all the five star reviews, either I downloaded a different version than the rest of the world or something is off here.

Attention Murder Mystery Fans!

What made the experience of listening to When Greed Turns Deadly the most enjoyable?

That it was intriguing..

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

That it took the judicial system so long to convict

Did Paul J. McSorley do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes. By description and some repetitiveness of the character

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

How cold hearted he was. That he had no conscience even to his family

Any additional comments?

If you're a murder mystery fan this is the book for you! An intriguing story of a real life murderer and how slowly the judicial systems sometimes work. This book describes the long 5 years it took to convict this man of murder. It's hard to believe this is Dixie Murphy's first book as It is as well written as any established writer. The narrator is just so so but don't let that discourage you. Hopefully this will not be her last book...true or fictional! This book would make a great movie!
