About this listen

In the spring of 1961, 10-year-old Nate "Weenie" Dooley has a revelation: His father is not a good one. Inspired by National Geographic, his favorite thing next to the Bible storybook his mother gave him before she died, Nate plans to leave his father and their home in the Smokies to set out on adventure.

When he discovers that his father has left him, first, it will take the help of a stray dog, some kind neighbors, a one-man band, letters from a long-lost aunt, and a new understanding of God to figure out he isn't really alone.

Will he find that Copper Creek is where he's always belonged? Or, will his wanderlust keep him from ever coming back?

In her second novel, Heather Norman Smith demonstrates that love makes a family and that while fathers may leave, our Heavenly Father is faithful, and he has a plan for all of us.

Once I started listening I could not stop! The story lines were creative, and suspenseful. This book has everything, sadness, excitement & happiness, it touched every emotion. . And the narrator did such a fine job with the characters that they became more alive with each passing chapter. Like any good book, I couldn't wait to find out how it ended, then I was sorry when it did! Kudos to the author Heather Norman Smith and the narrator Donald Cuddington! Thanks Mrs. Berna Deene Saylor

It is challenging to find great stories that are captivating, entertaining and appropriate for the whole family but this one definitely is.

It's a sweet story and we felt we were right there in the story with Nate on his different adventures.

Great family book

This story grabbed me right away. The narrator's accent fit perfectly with how I supposed the main character would sound like. I really felt for this young boy as he struggled to find his way but was encouraged that he found hope and strength in God. I enjoyed his memories of Bible stories and how he related them to the trials he faced in the book. The story was very easy to follow and hard to put down. I would definately recommend this book would for everyone.🙂

Thouroughly enjoyed this book!

I “read” lots of audiobooks and enjoy most of them. Too often, however, I can’t listen to them with my grandchildren in the car with me! So either I pick a children’s book or forget about listening to a book while driving. This book, while fairly predictable, is interesting enough for adults and appropriate for children.
I have also found that the narrator makes a significant difference in my listening experience. This reader captured the flavor of the story and kept my attention throughout the time it took to “read” the book.

Well done story for all ages
